Ahead of the release of their new digital single “Insomnia”, the group unveiled a moody group photo of all six members sporting new hairstyles, from a short cut for Sohee to platinum blonde waves for Wonbin, and the photo quickly went viral for the wrong reasons.
One netizen’s blunt verdict on the community site Instiz summed up the mood: “Only two made it out alive again.” Numerous fans piled on to agree, with some calling the hair the worst part of an already disappointing look for the comeback.

Many netizens pointed out that the hairstyles appeared to be wigs, which only left them more confused about why the looks were chosen. “Seriously, the hair… Why is it like this, seriously?” one comment read, while another asked, “What could possibly have been the reason to go as far as putting wigs on them just to give them those hairstyles?”
Others accused the styling team of repeatedly giving the same members unflattering hairstyles. “Seems like there are designated members whose looks they sabotage with weird hairstyles in this group. Every time I look, it’s those same members again,” one netizen wrote. Even international fans were left baffled, questioning when the photo was taken and why Sohee’s hair was so short and Wonbin’s platinum.
Some Fans Defend RIIZE’s Comeback Concept
While some netizens defended the concept, the criticism dominated the conversation online. Still, the comeback itself remains on track: RIIZE are set to release “Insomnia” on October 26, followed by their second full-length album, EMOTIION, in spring 2027.
Whether the styling controversy fades once the music arrives is the next question, but for now, the group’s new look has fans talking, just not in the way the comeback teasers intended.
