Jeremy Strong Emailed Mark Zuckerberg About ‘The Social Reckoning’

Published

on

While giving his all to his The Social Reckoning portrayal of Mark Zuckerberg, Jeremy Strong reached out to the Meta CEO and Facebook co-founder.

The Oscar nominee recently revealed that he emailed Zuckerberg to assure him he takes the “responsibility very seriously,” noting that the tech mogul responded. Strong would not reveal the details of Zuckerberg’s email.

“I wrote to him—I’m probably going to give Sony an aneurysm—I sent him an email,” Strong told GQ. “Just to say that I take this responsibility very seriously, and the veracity of it seriously, and I’m approaching it with respect.”

After The Social Network (2010) recounted Zuckerberg’s creation of Facebook and the controversy that ensued, screenwriter Aaron Sorkin returned to write and direct the upcoming sequel, which premieres Oct. 9, focusing on a 2021 document leak that exposed harm Facebook caused on society.

Noting that “it’s crazy to take this on at all,” Strong explained of the role, “Listen, I know that he is a reviled person and not a popular person in our culture, but I do not think you should have an actor playing him who wants to set out to condemn him.”

“It feels incredibly fraught to talk about the movie, to talk about Mark and being the person who is playing Mark and representing Mark in a sense to the world and to posterity; I feel an enormous sense of weight and responsibility,” added Strong. “And listen, my job is to understand and defend his point of view and fight his fight.”

In The Social Reckoning, Facebook engineer Frances Haugen (Mikey Madison) goes to Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz (Jeremy Allen White) with the social media platform’s most guarded secrets. Bill Burr, Wunmi Mosaku, Billy Magnussen and Betty Gilpin also star.

Jennifer Esposito Details ‘Excruciating’ Psych Ward Visit

Published

on

Jennifer Esposito explained that her panic disorder misdiagnosis and crippling celiac disease landed her in the psych ward.

The “Blue Bloods” actress shared on Tuesday’s “Heal Squad” podcast that she started experiencing a myriad of symptoms in her twenties as her career began to take off, but no one diagnosed her as celiac, yet.

Celiac disease is an autoimmune condition in which the body reacts negatively to gluten that’s found in foods containing wheat, barley or rye. During her early career days, the actress said that she suffered from deep depression and “had thoughts of suicide.”

She even shared that while starring on the ABC comedy “Samantha Who?”, which ran from 2007 to 2009, her hair started falling out and her nails fell off.

“A tooth fell out of my mouth, like literally in the middle of a scene,” she told host Maria Menounos. “I was mortified but also had been so ill that I just … I went hysterical. Like, somebody has to help me.”

She shared that one doctor prescribed her medication to aid in the healing process but the effects of it left her feeling like “a trembling mess.”

“I was literally sleeping in my kitchen because it was the only place that didn’t have a window because the light the stimulus from the light would make me tremble and shake,” she said.

Another low moment in her road to recovery was being transferred to the psych ward, while hospitalized for her condition. During her hospital stay, Esposito told her physician that if she was kept there any longer she was “going to jump out the window.”

The doctors took this literally and transferred her to the psych ward.

“Within a half an hour, I was wheeled upstairs to the psych ward, and I will say it was seven of the most excruciating hours of my entire life because I was yet again pleading for my sanity,” she said.

“I remember [the doctor] looked at my dad and he was like, ‘Is she always this hostile?’” she recalled. “And I just thought, if I ever get out of here … I have to do something.”

This moment pushed her to write her book “Jennifer’s Way” in 2014 and start reaching out for support from community groups of fellow celiacs. The memoir detailed her journey towards diagnosis and her challenging relationships with doctors along the way.

The actor-director also shared that after getting off medication and healing her body holistically her panic disorders ceased.

“I do not get panic disorder. I do not have it anymore,” she said. “You cannot be on four Klonopin a day and then be on nothing if I had this panic disorder.”

Neil Patrick Harris Recounts Pressure to Come Out After Pressure From Gossip Bloggers

Published

on

Neil Patrick Harris reflected on his decision to come out as gay in 2006, saying he opened up about his private life after becoming a “target” of gossip bloggers, including Perez Hilton.

“I had started dating David, who’s now my husband, David Burtka, well before I auditioned for ‘How I Met Your Mother,’” Harris shared on Tuesday’s episode of the “Great Company with Jamie Laing” podcast. “Everyone on that show knew David, knew that we were a couple. But that was at a time when there were bloggers on the internet and that you would go to like read the salacious, you know, ‘Try to guess who this actor is that’s gay and in the closet,’ kind of comment.”

He added: “And so, there was a fear that I would be like, the next target on that. And David and I would go to movie premieres together, but I would walk the carpet and he would go around the other side of the photographers.”

Harris acknowledged that they could have justified keeping their personal life private at the time, given both he and Burtka risked potential professional ramifications by confirming their couple status.

“But, intrinsically, makes David potentially feel less than,” he said. “If I’m getting to walk across while he’s like skulking behind, right? And then, sure enough, the the target came towards me in a very weird way.

“A comment had come out that I had said that I wasn’t of that persuasion, which was the quoted phrase,” he continued. “Like someone asked a publicist about my sexuality and the publicist said I was ‘Not of that persuasion.’ That turned into, ‘That’s weird for him to say because we know that he’s gay.’”

Harris shared that he realized at that moment that he was “going to have to say something.”

“I got to get ahead of the story,” the actor recalled. “Because I don’t want to be coming out in reaction to ‘If anyone has any information on Neil Patrick Harris, have you ever slept with him, please come forward.’”

While Harris didn’t name Hilton directly, the celebrity blogger did infamously launch an online campaign to “out” the “Doogie Howser, M.D.” star in the early 2000s, as he solicited his readers to come forward with any tips about the actor’s personal life. When Harris did come out, Hilton responded, “We are so proud (despite the naysayers) in having a hand in bringing about change.”

However, during a July appearance on the “Hang Out With Sean Hannity” podcast, Hilton expressed that he deeply regretted the way he targeted celebrities on his blog. He shared that he even reached out to Harris, as well as Britney Spears and Khloé Kardashian, to make amends.

“I realized what I was doing was wrong,” Hilton, who was hospitalized last week following a self-harm incident on TikTok, said. “I realized I could still be funny, but I didn’t have to be so cheap, and I didn’t have to be so cruel. It was cruel. It’s something that I carry with me. It’s like my scarlet letter, and it’s very heavy baggage.”

Hilton compared his campaign to out celebrities to a “witch hunt,” adding, “I was trying to track down people he dated. I viewed it as entertainment, but it’s their lives.”

Per Hilton, Harris accepted his apology, sharing that he was asked to write something for the actor’s memoir.

“So I wrote a little something in there, and he was very, very gracious,” Hilton said.

As for Harris, he admitted he was “a little scared” about what the reaction would be to his statement. Yet, he said there was “indifference at best.”

“I was a little bit offended that more people weren’t surprised,” he said on Tuesday. “I expected a little more. ‘Wait, what?’”
