Anne Hathaway Teases Fate of ‘End of Oak Street’ Pup

It’s been a banner year for Anne Hathaway at the box office, and apparently it’s been a barking-good year for Hollywood’s canine actors as well, but maybe not for their on-screen characters.

The actress has starred in “Mother Mary,” the blockbuster sequel “The Devil Wears Prada 2” and Christopher Nolan’s billion-dollar record-shattering “The Odyssey.” Now, she’s gearing up for her next turn in David Robert Mitchell’s science-fiction survival film “The End of Oak Street,” which hits theaters Friday.

The film, also starring Ewan McGregor, follows a couple and their two children who live on an ordinary 1980s suburban street until a mysterious cosmic event suddenly rips their street out of suburbia and into a prehistoric world populated by dinosaurs. The other family member who makes their way into the death-defying new environment is the family dog, which audiences are worried might not fare so well in the predatory world of ancient creatures.

While discussing the film with Complex, in an interview published Wednesday, Hathaway was told by the interview that fans waiting to see the film were worried the dog would die. The actress said this is not the fist time she had heard the concern.

“I feel like movies that kill dogs should automatically be rated R,” she said. “It doesn’t matter if anybody curses, it doesn’t matter if there’s violence … If a dog dies, it’s R-rated.”

“It’s like we break the rules in this movie … that might not be one of them. Don’t worry,” she added, much to the interviewer’s relief.

“I think everybody’s so traumatized by ‘John Wick.’ Because I’ve been seeing those too, like, ‘They better not kill the dog,’” she continued. “I’m like, which movies are out there killing dogs? That everybody’s so scared that we’re just casually doing it in movies now.”

While she didn’t give too much away, considering “The End of Oak Street” is rated PG-13, we’ll assume the dog fares pretty well against the dinosaurs if her R-rated rule applies.

Strangely, this is not the only film this summer that has caused a dog-related death spiral online. The latest Nolan epic features a perfect but very old boy named Argos – who was Odysseus’ dog. While we can share Argos is certainly a good pup, we won’t spoil his plot line for you here. But if for some reason you have yet to catch “The Odyssey” and are dying for answers, his fate is revealed here.

Hathaway’s next film is Colleen Hoover’s “Verity” which comes out Oct. 2. From the first trailer it doesn’t appear to have any four-legged friends in it, which considering the summer track record of dog outcomes in films, might be for the best.

‘Scrubs’ Season 2 Adds ‘SNL’ Player John Higgins

The second season of ABC and 20th Century Television’s “Scrubs” revival is bolstering its ensemble with former “Saturday Night Live” player and writer John Higgins, TheWrap has learned.

The recurring role is said to be the hospital’s new chief resident, a learning position once held by series lead Zach Braff’s J.D. in early seasons of the original show. Series star Donald Faison directly confirmed Higgins’ involvement on Saturday during a “Scrubs” panel at Disney’s annual expo D23.

“John Higgins joins the cast. It’s been a lot of fun to watch him work, actually him and Ava Bunn, who plays Tosh. They’ve been great additions,” Faison said.

Bunn played intern Tosh in the first season of the revival series. She’s been upped to a main cast member for this coming follow-up edition.

Representatives for ABC declined to comment on Higgins’ casting.

Higgins became a regular fixture on “Saturday Night Live” over recent seasons through the show’s digital shorts, where his sketch group Please Don’t Destroy often featured. The comedy trio, which also includes Ben Marshall and Martin Herlihy, recurred on “Saturday Night Live” through Seasons 47 through 50, and were often responsible for some of the sketch show’s most viral segments. The trio also led a 2023 comedy feature from Universal, “Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain.” Along with starring in the film, Higgins co-wrote and executive produced.

Please Don’t Destroy’s run on “SNL” came to a close last summer, with Marshall becoming a cast member, Herlihy staying on as a writer and Higgins departing the show. Other credits for him since include a recurring role on Apple TV+’s “Stick” and a role in Netflix’s upcoming Cameron Diaz feature “Bad Day.”

‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Renewed For Season 19 At MTV

Condragulations are in order for RuPaul’s Drag Race and RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars as MTV and Paramount+ have renewed the shows for additional seasons.

MTV has picked up RuPaul’s Drag Race for Season 19 alongside its companion series RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked, while Paramount+ has ordered RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars for Season 12 alongside its companion series RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars: Untucked.

The pickups for the RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise come as they celebrate 11 Emmy nominations with host RuPaul Charles record-extending 11th consecutive nomination for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program.

“Nearly twenty years later, what began as a dream has become an extraordinary global movement. We owe endless thanks to our partners at MTV and Paramount+, along with every queen, judge, crew member, and fan who has built RuPaul’s Drag Race,” World of Wonder said in a statement. “Drag brings people together in powerful ways – and we are honored to keep celebrating new voices and sharing iconic moments with the world.”

RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 18 saw strong viewership with double-digit growth from its previous season. The season saw Myki Meeks take the crown and becoming the newest drag superstar.

Spinoff RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 11 played with the format with the Tournament of All Stars, which brought together returning queens to compete for a coveted spot in the “Drag Race Hall of Fame.” Crystal Methyd earned the title during the latest season.

RuPaul is ready for another lap, as the entire U.S. “Drag Race” franchise was renewed for additional seasons on Saturday.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” will be returning for Season 19 on MTV, opposite its companion show “Untucked.” Meanwhile, “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” will be coming back for Season 12 alongside its version of “Untucked” on Paramount+.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” originally premiered in February 2009 on Logo TV and has since become a global sensation. Plus, the format is still going strong across the world — as “Canada’s Drag Race All Stars,” “Drag Race México: Latina Royale,” “Drag Race France” and “Drag Race Down Under vs. the World” have all aired new episodes this week alone.
