This year’s ninth issue of Akita Shoten‘s Young Champion Retsu magazine published a new one-shot manga by Yuu Minamoto for her Samurai Harem: Asu no Yoichi manga on Tuesday. The one-shot is titled “Asu no Yoichi! 2026 ~Egao no Riyū~,” and it celebrates 20 years since the manga launched.

The manga centers on the titular Yoichi, a young swordsman who has trained alone for a long time in the mountains. When he turns 17, he is ordered by his father to continue training under the Ikaruga family to further hone his skills. Going to town, he finds the Ikaruga dojo run by the family’s four beautiful sisters.

Minamoto launched the manga in Akita Shoten‘s Monthly Shōnen Champion magazine in May 2006 and ended it in February 2011. Akita Shoten published 15 compiled book volumes for the manga. Tokyopop published eight volumes of the the manga in North America. The manga inspired a television anime adaptation in 2009. Section23 Films/Sentai Filmworks released the anime under the title Samurai Harem.

Minamoto and Bamboo Blade writer Masahiro Totsuka launched their Haru Polish manga about a high-school girl in a swordfighting club in Akita Shoten‘s Monthly Shōnen Champion magazine in 2011, and ended it in November 2012.

Minamoto ended the Haken no Ninja Akabane (Temp Ninja Akabane) manga on Akita Shoten‘s Manga Cross website in March 2023. Minamoto launched the manga in Manga Cross in July 2019. Akita Shoten published the manga’s fourth and final volume in June 2023.

Minamoto ended the Kasen Kōshu Yawa: Sono Reijin, Kōkyū no Yami o Kiru (The Night Tale of Princess Kasen: That Beauty, Cuts Through the Darkness of the Palace) manga in February 2025. Minamoto debuted the manga in 2019, based on author Tōko Kisaki and illustrator Roro Kamijō‘s light novel series, which began in 2018. Akita Publishing shipped the sixth volume shipped in April 2024.

Minamoto’s latest manga is Watashi-tachi wa Kakechigatteiru (We’re at Odds with Each Other), which launched in Akita Shoten‘s Champion Cross manga platform in October 2024, and is ongoing. Akita Shoten published the manga’s third volume on May 8.

The Paramount+ streaming service presented the official trailer for the animated series based on Sega‘s Golden Axe video game series on Thursday. The trailer announces that the series will premiere on September 16 on Paramount+ (as opposed to Comedy Central as previously announced).

In an homage to SEGA‘s iconic 1989 video game, Golden Axe follows legendary warriors Ax Battler, Tyris Flare and Gilius Thunderhead as they reunite to save Yuria from the evil giant Death Adder, who just won’t seem to stay dead. Their quest is complicated by Hampton Squib, an inexperienced and wildly underprepared adventurer whose dream of heroism far exceeds his abilities. Forced to work together despite their flaws, they must find a way to stop Death Adder once and for all.

The cast of the show includes Matthew Rhys as Gillius Thunderhead, Danny Pudi as Hampton Squib, Lisa Gilroy as Tyrus Flare, Liam McIntyre as Ax Battler, and Carl Tart as Chronos “Evil” Lait.

Mike McMahan (Star Trek: Lower Decks, Solar Opposites) and Joe Chandler are serving as co-creators and executive producers of the 10-episode series at the American animation studio Titmouse. CBS Studios‘ CBS Eye Animation Productions is producing alongside Sony Pictures Television and Original Film. Sega‘s Haruki Satomi, Shuji Utsumi, and Toru Nakahara is serving as executive producers along with Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, Ben Kalina, and Original Film‘s Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, and Toby Ascher.

Sega announced an untitled new entry in the Golden Axe game series at The Game Awards on December 7, 2023.

Sega released the original Golden Axe video game in 1989 as a side-scrolling beat-em up arcade game.

The game series inspired a stage play in 2018.

Crunchyroll announced on Thursday that it and Sony Pictures Entertainment will release The Irregular at Magic High School THE MOVIE – Yotsuba Succession Arc – (Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei: Yotsuba Keishō-hen) anime in theaters in the United States and Canada on November 1, 3 and 4. The film will have screenings with English subtitles or an English dub.

Returning cast members included Yūichi Nakamura as Tatsuya Shiba, Saori Hayami as Miyuki Shiba, Chiwa Saitō as Maya Yotsuba, and Emiri Katō as Fumiya Kuroba. New cast members included Daisuke Ono as Katsushige Shibata and Ai Kayano as Yuuka Tsukuba.

Jimmy Stone directed the anime at 8-Bit. Taku Iwasaki composed the music. Tsutomu Satou is credited for the original story, and Kana Ishida is credited for the original character design.

The film opened in Japan on May 8 after an April 28 premiere in Tokyo.

Tsutomu Satou‘s The irregular at magic high school (Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei) light novel series launched in 2008, and ended with the 32nd volume in September 2020. Two sequels shipped in October 2020 and January 2021.

The irregular at magic high school TV anime premiered in April 2014 and aired for 26 episodes. A second season, titled The Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor Arc, premiered in October 2020 and ran for 13 episodes. The anime franchise also includes the The irregular at magic high school The Movie: The Girl Who Summons the Stars film, which opened in Japan in June 2017. The Honor Student at Magic High School manga inspired a 13-episode TV anime that premiered in July 2021.

The irregular at magic high school anime’s third television season premiered in April 2024. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired with English subtitles and an English dub.
