Ao Kojima’s Hon Nara Uru Hodo Manga Wins Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize – News
The Asahi Shimbun paper announced the winners for the 30th Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize awards on Monday. The awards commemorate the contributions of the manga pioneer Osamu Tezuka (Astro Boy/Mighty Atom, Kimba the White Lion/Jungle Emperor, Phoenix, Black Jack) by recognizing the manga that best follow his tradition.

The anthology story manga centers on the second-hand bookstore Jūgatsudō, its easygoing young owner, and the variety of people who come to the bookstore.
New Creator Prize

The manga centers on kaiju specialist Akira Honda, who is called to oversee the dissection and research of the corpse of a 210-meter-long, nearly 85,000 ton kaiju nicknamed “Tokyo.” Akira begins to suspect that while Tokyo is immobile, it is not really dead.

The manga takes place during the Battle of Peleliu, a months-long battle that took place during World War II between the U.S. and Japan on the island of Peleliu in Palau. The manga takes place in the summer of 1944. Peleliu is a paradise with coral reefs and beautiful forests. Tamaru is a soldier who wants to become a manga creator. The manga depicts Tamaru’s daily life during a drawn-out battle between Japan’s approximately 10,000 troops and the U.S.’s 50,000 troops, exploring themes such as what the soldiers fight for when so far from home on a small island.
Asahi Shimbun scheduled an awards ceremony in Tokyo on June 11. The Grand Prize winner will receive a bronze statue and 2 million yen (about US$13,300), while the other winners will each receive a bronze statue and 1 million yen (about US$6,600).
Last year, seven titles were nominated, and anime director Rintarō‘s 1-byō 24-koma no Boku no Jinsei (Ma Vie en 24 Images par Second, or My Life at 24 Frames per Second) autobiographical manga won the Grand Prize. Shiho Kido‘s When the Chameleon Flowers Bloom (Dokudami no Hana Saku Koro) won the New Creator prize, and Shunji Enomoto‘s The Kinks won the Short Work Prize.
Hon Nara Uru Hodo also won the 19th Manga Taisho award this year. It topped the list for male readers in Takarajimasha‘s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! (This Manga Is Amazing!) guidebook for this year, and the manga in Kadokawa Media Factory‘s literary news magazine Da Vinci’s 25th annual “Book of the Year” list.

Game developer enish announced on Friday that Attack on Titan: Brave Order, its cooperative smartphone game in the Attack on Titan franchise, is ending service on September 28 at 5:30 p.m. JST.
Sales of in-game currency have halted.
The game launched for iOS and Android devices in February 2022.
The game has players join the Scout Corps alongside Eren and Mikasa, and take down Titans cooperatively alongside other players.
Mobage released the first Shingeki no Kyojn (Attack on Titan) smartphone game in 2012. The Shingeki no Kyojin -Hangeki no Tsubasa- (Attack on Titan: The Wings of Counterattack) smartphone game launched on the GREE mobile platform in 2013. The Shingeki no Kyoujin -Jiyū he no Hōkō- (Attack on Titan -Call for Freedom-) smartphone game then launched through Mobage in 2014. DeNA released KAYAC‘s Attack on Titan TACTICS tactical role-playing smartphone game for iOS and Android devices in English in September 2019, and the game ended service in August 2020.

Studio Aardman’s Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu Stop-Motion Series Reveals Teaser Trailer, 2027 Debut on Disney+, Disney XD – News
The official website for the Pokémon franchise announced during the PokémonXP event on Friday that Disney+ will exclusively stream the Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu, the franchise‘s stop-motion animated series collaboration with independent studio Aardman (Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the Sheep), beginning in 2027. The Disney XD channel will debut the series on television. The official YouTube channels for the Pokémon franchise and Aardman unveiled a teaser trailer:
The series is part of a global distribution deal between Disney+ and The Pokémon Company International. The deal also includes Pokémon the Series: The Beginning, the original Indigo League season of the anime, which began streaming on Disney+ on August 7 with the first 27 episodes and has also begun airing on Disney XD.
Peter Lord, Cofounder and Creative Director at Aardman, stated that the Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu animated series will take place in a region that is “very close to our hearts.” The video teases Wooloo and Sirfetch’d, which are Pokémon originally introduced in the Pokémon Sword/Shield games that are set in the Galar region based on the U.K.
Tom Parkinson is the director, Natalie McKay is the creative director, and James Young is the creative lead.
Pokémon Concierge, another stop-motion animated series for the Pokémon franchise, debuted with four episodes on Netflix in December 2023. The stop-motion production company dwarf studios (Rilakkuma and Kaoru) animated the episodes thus far. New episodes premiered in September 2025.”
The Pokémon: Horizons anime premiered in Japan in April 2023 with a one-hour first-episode special. The show airs in Japan on Fridays at 6:55 p.m. JST.
The Pokémon Company had originally announced that the anime would debut on Netflix in the U.S. in February 2024, but the series debuted instead in March 2024. Netflix premiered Pokémon Horizons: The Series—The Search for Laqua, the anime’s second season, in February 2025. Netflix added Pokémon Horizons: Season 3—Rising Hope on January 6.
