Pro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor has been discharged from the hospital, his attorney Mark Eiglarsh said in a statement released Tuesday morning.

Taylor, 67, had been hospitalized since April 20 with what Eiglarsh initially referred to as a “stomach-related issue.”

“He is deeply grateful to the entire medical staff for their exceptional care and unwavering support,” Eiglarsh said. “Also, he is grateful to now be on the road to recovery and hopes to be back on the golf course soon. He is returning home to Florida today.

“Mr. Taylor would also like to sincerely thank everyone for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers. Knowing that so many people were thinking of him and praying for his recovery gave him strength and helped carry him through a very challenging time.”

Taylor was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999 after a 13-year NFL career with the New York Giants. He earned 10 Pro Bowl selections and eight first-team All-Pro nods, and was named MVP and Defensive Player of the Year in 1986, when he led the NFL with 20.5 sacks.

He has also been mired in controversy during and after his playing career. Most recently, in July 2024, he was arrested for failing to report his residence change as a registered sex offender. That case, which stemmed from a 2011 incident in which Taylor pled guilty to misdemeanor charges of sexual misconduct and patronizing an underage prostitute, was closed a month later.

Last year, he was present at the White House with a group of other athletes as President Donald Trump signed an executive order establishing the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition and bringing back the Presidential Fitness Test for students in public schools.
