Jimmy Kimmel Roasts White House for Fan Casting Trump as New James Bond

Published

on

Jimmy Kimmel mocked the White House for suggesting Donald Trump could step into the role of James Bond, quipping that “007” was more likely the president’s approval rating.

The late night host weighed in on the Trump administration’s casting pitch during Monday’s monologue for “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” where he roasted the odd posts coming from both the president and his team.

“Trump also posted about how young he looks,” Kimmel noted. “He said, ‘President Trump ages in reverse.’ Like, you’re not aging in reverse. Wearing diapers does not mean you’re aging in reverse.”

At this moment, Kimmel also called out the White House for “jump[ing] on the crazy train,” as they responded to the news about the hunt for Bond with a mock-up of Trump as the titular superspy.

“Grab ’em by the ‘Octopussy.’ We got a new James Bond in town,” Kimmel quipped, referencing the 13th Bond movie, which starred Roger Moore as the MI6 agent.

“I think 007 is his approval rating right now,” he continued. “Imagine being a very unpopular president in the middle of a very unpopular war. The cost of everything is skyrocketing. Gas is very expensive. And you are spending your time posting online about how hot you are, how you captured an alien and how you should be the next James Bond.”

Watch Kimmel’s full monologue below.

The commentary comes less than a week after it was confirmed that James Bond casting was finally underway, as Nina Gold was tapped to find the next 007.

“The search for the next James Bond is underway,” a spokesperson for Amazon MGM Studios said Thursday in a statement. “While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.”

The upcoming iteration of the British spy classic will be directed by Denis Villeneuve and produced by Amy Pascal and David Heyman. The iconic MI6 agent was previously played by Daniel Craig, Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on ABC.

Dwayne Johnson Reacts To Live-Action ‘Moana’ Negative Reviews

Published

on

Although the live-action remake of Moana hasn’t quite been able to catch a wave at the box office, Dwayne Johnson is proud of what they made.

The Golden Globe nominee said the Disney movie’s negative reviews, which currently sit at 32% on Rotten Tomatoes, are “just the way it goes” in the entertainment industry, and what “really mattered” was that “the culture really stood up” in the Polynesian-inspired tale.

“Our first two reviews came out. I’ll never forget it… They were amazing. I was like, wow,” he told People, noting the reviews then “went another way, as sometimes happens.”

“That’s just the way it goes because we’re in this business,” added Johnson.

A decade after he voiced the demigod Maui in Disney’s animated film Moana, Johnson reprised the role in the Thomas Kail-helmed live-action adaptation.

“The challenge was, okay, let’s remember, though, what’s going to be beyond this opening weekend. Let’s remember what’s happening right now and the noise that’s happening right now,” said Johnson. “If you love it, great. If you don’t, no problem.”

Following Moana‘s July 10 premiere, the movie has gone on to make $266M at the global box office. Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro addressed the low turnout in a letter to shareholders.

“Even when our franchise films don’t meet our box office expectations, as with The Mandalorian and Grogu and the live-action Moana, our investments in these core properties fuel other parts of our company,” said D’Amaro, noting that Moana is “expected to be a strong title on Disney+, building on the success of the original film, which is one of the most streamed movies of all time.”

Hunter Biden Calls Trump the ‘Singular Existential Threat’ to Planet Earth

Published

on

Hunter Biden doesn’t have plans of running for office himself, but he still has some strong opinions when it comes to the presidency. In fact, President Joe Biden’s son just called President Donald Trump “the singular existential threat” to planet Earth.

During his wide-ranging interview with BBC Newsnight’s Paddy O’Connell on Friday, the 56-year-old artist opened up about receiving a pardon from his father during his last weeks in office back in December 2024 — and how Trump’s behavior may have impacted the decision.

“I am the most privileged person, as it relates to that, that there could possibly be. I was one of one, and I am eternally grateful for it,” Hunter shared. “I am eternally grateful for it because I think that Donald Trump has proven to be exactly who my dad thought he was going to be, as it relates to the revenge and retribution that he would seek on his political enemies.”

“Was it good for our Constitution? Was it good for the American people? Was it good for my dad’s legacy? No, on all counts,” he further admitted.

President Biden pardoned his son just weeks ahead of his sentencing on tax evasion and federal gun charges. At the time, Trump called the act “an abuse and miscarriage of justice.” A year and half later, Hunter remains equally unimpressed by his father’s successor (who was also, notably, his predecessor).

“I’m not going to stop talking about Donald Trump,” he concluded. “Donald Trump is the singular existential threat to this globe. Donald Trump is, literally, a greater threat than we have faced in any of our lifetimes.”

Elsewhere in his interview, Hunter fought tears while sharing a painful update on his father’s prostate cancer metastasizing to his bones: “My dad is, to this day, remains the center of our family. Not just because of who he is as the the public person, but completely because of who he is to each one of us. It’s really, really hard and it’s really sad to watch.”

‘One Night Only’ Director Understands “Sex Purge” Comparisons

Published

on

While One Night Only is intended as a romantic-comedy, there are some obvious dystopian undertones that audiences can’t ignore.

Director Will Gluck recently addressed online comparisons between the Purge franchise and his new Universal rom-com, which is now in theaters, about two New Yorkers (Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner) who meet on the one night a year premarital sex is legal.

“I am very aware of the online discourse about this world and this movie being the ‘sex Purge,’ and rightfully so,” he told SlashFilm. “But I don’t want this movie to be about that. And I know I get some blowback going, ‘How could you make a movie about this not being about that?’ Because I love exploring characters and situations.

Gluck added, “Whenever us humans get put in situations, no matter how or why the situation happens, we still have to be humans and get through the day. And that’s what interests me. So we didn’t want it to overwhelm. We wanted to explain it. We didn’t want to take a side. We wanted to show both sides, but we wanted it to be about these two people going through this crazy night.”

With five movies and a TV series expanding on the universe since The Purge premiered in 2013, the Blumhouse franchise is set in an alternate reality where all crime, including murder, is legal one night a year for 12 hours.

In a similarly dystopian fascist universe, albeit with a much lighter mood, One Night Only follows recently dumped pizzeria owner Owen (Turner) and singer Allie (Barbaro) meet on the one night of the year premarital sex is legal under the United States’ “chastity mandate.”
