Best of Spring 2026, May 20-26 – Your Anime Rankings

Published

on

Let’s have a look at what ANN readers consider the best (and worst) of the season,
based on the polls you can find in our Daily Streaming Reviews
and on the Your Score page with the latest simulcasts.

Keep in mind that these rankings are based on how people rated individual episodes of the current season, not on the overall quality or popularity of the series.
Only the titles legally streaming in North America and popular enough are being ranked, so the bottom of the list might represent ‘watchable’ rather than ‘bad’.
Series that lack enough user votes will not qualify for the ranking.
See the notes for further details.

Episode Rankings for the week of May 20-26

Along the actual ranking for this week’s episodes, this graph chronicles the change in position from week to week.
While some series are stable, others swing wildly in the rankings depending on the strength of each episode.
When a series has no episode for a given week, the previous week’s episode is used instead as a placeholder.
The first episode of each series is considered as part of the first week, even if it really streamed during the second week.

Each week’s ranking takes into account the scores given to previous weeks’ episodes.
As we reach closer to the end of the season, each series’ rank will start to solidify and we’ll get a look at the real winners and losers.

Notes

Disclaimer: the rankings are just an average of opinions, published for entertainment and information purposes.
ANN makes no claims regarding statistical significance or invulnerability to spam.

The rankings are computed using the Ranked pairs method,
with the variation that unrated titles are considered as abstentions instead of lower than the rated titles.
This roughly means that if, out of all people who rated both A and B, 60% preferred A, it will be ranked higher than B.

The rankings indicate relative quality (A is preferred to B), not absolute quality (B is good/bad).
While the titles are ranked from ‘best’ to ‘worst’, sometimes the difference between #1 and #10 can be very thin.
So if your favorite is near the bottom of the list, don’t take it personally.
It doesn’t mean it’s a bad show, it just means that ANN readers, on average, have preferred the ones above.

If a series has no episode for a given week, we use the rating data for the previous week’s episode in order to compute the weekly ranking.
This is not officially counted as a position in the ranking (it has no impact on the cumulative ranking), but it makes it easier to compare weeks if they each have the same number of series ranked.

It should be noted that long-running series (and sequels) have an advantage in the sense that only people who like the series are still watching it, and they are likely to give each episode a high rating.
But if such a series is going through a low-quality filler arc, the season will get low rankings that are not indicative of the true overall quality of the series.
Conversely, there are fewer people rating the show so it’s less likely to have enough votes to qualify for the ranking.

Horang’s horror webtoon The Ghost of Bongcheon-Dong is being adapted into a live-action film.

Lotte Entertainment announced on October 7 that Arin — a member of K-pop girl group OH MY GIRL — and Chan-young Yoon will star in the film. Production began on October 5.

Based on Horang’s short horror webtoon of the same name, The Ghost of Bongcheon-Dong follows Su-yeon, a young woman who begins experiencing strange phenomena at an apartment complex in Bongcheon-dong, Seoul, built on land where shamans once performed rituals. She becomes possessed by a ghost and is drawn into a centuries-old curse surrounding the area.

Arin will play Su-yeon, while Yoon will portray Tae-oh, a young man who can see ghosts.

Horang originally published the webtoon in 2011 as part of the horror comic collection The Vault of Horror: A Collection of Nightmares. The story became one of Horang’s best-known horror comics and was later remastered and included in Horang’s Nightmare in 2020.

Lotte Entertainment has not yet announced a release date.

Cross Infinite World is releasing the original light novel series in English, and it describes the story:

The first prince of the kingdom of Farune, Mars, is only twelve years old, yet he lives in fear of assassination. In order to avoid the deadly poison in nearly all of his meals, he slips out of the castle into the nearby monster-infested forest, where, battling monsters and his own hunger, he has to hunt for his meals in order to stave off starvation. Then, one night, as he’s searching for his next bite of monster meat, a red-haired woman shouldering a greatsword appears before him and says to him, “You have promise. Become my apprentice.” How is he supposed to tell her that this must be some sort of mistake? But there’s a secret that only she knows, and that he’s stumbled upon: eating monsters makes you stronger! With her training and his newfound power, Mars will finally overcome all those pesky assassination attempts. However, that doesn’t end things; no, it’s only the beginning of a nationwide—even continent-spanning—series of wars and plots with him right in the middle!

Cross Infinite World released the sixth novel volume digitally on September 30.

Daken launched the original story on the “Shōsetsuka ni Narō” website in January 2022, and the latest update was in January 2023. Micro Magazine‘s GCN Bunko label started publishing the story in compiled volume format in September 2023 with illustrations by Shiba. The company will publish the seventh volume on October 20.

Daken‘s Tsuihо̄ Sareta Shо̄nin wa Kin no Chikara de Sekai wo Sukū light novel series is also slated to get an upcoming television anime adaptation. Seven Seas Entertainment is releasing Daken‘s The Suspects of Necromancy and The Wicked Princess and Her Twelve Eyes light novel series in English.
