Karen Bass and Spencer Pratt Lead Early LA Mayor Results
Incumbent Mayor Karen Bass and reality star Spencer Pratt have emerged as the top contenders in the race for Los Angeles mayor Tuesday as early results have come in.
Mayor Bass leads with 37% of the vote with Pratt falling closely behind with 30%. The reality star has a 10 point lead on his second position opponent Councilmember Nithya Raman, who has received 20% of the vote to become L.A. mayor.
If none of the candidates received over 50% of the vote Tuesday, the top two will face off in the Nov. 3 general election.
In the 2022 mayoral primary, Rick Caruso led Bass from primarily vote center and early mail in ballots on election night. It took a week of additional vote counting for Bass to overtake Caruso for the top spot, and she went on to win by nine points in the November runoff.
The latest from UC Berkeley-Los Angeles Times predicted a tight race between Bass at 26% and Councilmember Nithya Raman at 25% with former reality star Spencer Pratt closely behind at 22% in a poll among likely voters in the primary election.
In March, Bass had 25% support, Raman was at 17%, and Pratt at 14%, with 26% still undecided, showing limited growth for the incumbent as opposed to her challengers.
Mayor Bass is the first incumbent mayor to advance to a runoff since 2005.
Since each of the candidates entered the race, the conversation about who should lead the second-largest city in the country has taken place outside of the jurisdiction of L.A. Pratt’s AI campaign videos and staunch supporters created a hive mind on social media — not to mention his last minute, half-hearted endorsement from President Donald Trump.
Though the incumbent, Mayor Bass faced an uphill battle for reelection after the city’s handling of the Palisades and Altadena fires last year, which destroyed more than 15,000 structures and left 12 people dead.
Pratt, the former star of MTV’s “The Hills,” entered the race a year after his house burned in the Palisades fire with the intention to challenge the leadership that permitted the catastrophe.
Councilmember Raman was a staunch supporter of Bass before filing her candidacy for mayor hours before the deadline on Feb. 7.
Each of the candidates have spoken about how they would support the entertainment industry. The three leading candidates received endorsements from high profile entertainment voices.
Jane Fonda, Vice President Kamala Harris, Samuel L. Jackson and Jenifer Lewis were among Bass’ supporters. David Foster, Brian Grazer, Jeanie Buss and Brett Ratner endorsed Pratt. And Raman, whose husband works as a writer-producer in the business, earned support from Mike Schur, Adam Scott, Lake Bell, Rachel Bloom, Aidy Bryant and Vanessa Bayer.

Democrat Xavier Becerra and Trump-Backed Steve Hilton Are Top 2 in Early Results for California Governor’s Race
Former Biden Cabinet secretary Xavier Becerra and Fox News commentator Steve Hilton have emerged as the early leading candidates in the race for California governor with only half of the vote reported.
These two may go head-to-head in a runoff in the November general election. With half of the vote counted, the Republican Brit leads with 27% of the vote with the former Calif. attorney general closely behind with 26% of the vote. Billionaire businessman Tom Steyer trails behind with just 20% of the reported vote.
Former health and human services secretary Becerra has the most political experience of the frontrunners. He previously served as the California attorney general from 2017 to 2021 and a U.S. representative for the state from 1993 to 2017.
Steyer is a hedge fund billionaire-turned-climate activist. He founded the San Francisco hedge Farallon Capital in 1986 and was its co-senior managing partner until leaving the firm in 2012. He has since become active in climate advocacy, founding NextGen America and climate change-focused investment firm Galvanize Climate Solution.
The businessman spent $216 million of his own wealth on his gubernatorial bid, arguing that he is the only candidate who does not have to rely on special interest gorups.
The former British political strategist has emerged as the leading Republican candidate, ousting his rival Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, after President Donald Trump endorsed him in April. Hilton immigrated to California from the UK in 2012, where he was previously the aide of Prime Minister David Cameron.
The top 2 candidates will advance to the general election, regardless of party affiliation.
An Emerson College poll in partnership with Inside California Politics predicted Becerra to lead the polls at 28% with Steyer and Hilton tied for second position with 23% of the vote.
As for the leading candidates’ opinions on entertainment industry issues, both Steyer and Hilton support an uncapped tax credit program for California. Becerra has been more hesitant, but he did note that the current $750 million tax credit is “the floor.”
All of the candidates have advocated for a federal production incentive and pledged to push for the White House’s support to make domestic production more attainable and competitive with that of international markets.
The largest union representing Hollywood workers, IATSE, joined with other labor groups in endorsing Steyer, who has been more outspoken in his opposition to M&A in the entertainment sector.
The general election to determine who will become California governor will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Karen Bass & Spencer Pratt Lead L.A. Mayor’s Race, Set For Runoff In November
The final results are far from in for the Los Angeles mayoral race, but already Karen Bass is already in battle mode to take on Spencer Pratt in November.
“Tomorrow begins the second half of this journey,” the incumbent told supporters at a Koreatown gathering just over an hour after the polls closed in LA and throughout California Tuesday. “We can have the city we know we all deserves,” Bass said, making reference to the home of Hollywood as a global “creative” center
Right now with nearly 50% of the vote in America’s second largest city in, Bass holds a steady lead with just under 37% of the ballots counted so far. The Hill alum Pratt has 29.8% of the vote, with Councilmember Nithya Raman coming in third place with 20.5%.
With no single candidate reaching 50%, the top two contenders will head to a run-off.
If this trend maintains, Raman will stay in her City Hall gig as Bass and Pratt go head-to-head in November. Despite a clearly strong online game, the Donald Trump endorsed Pratt is the near perfect electoral foil for Bass in the heavily Democratic L.A.
For a City of Angels battling an exodus of Hollywood productions and jobs as well as being on the verge of FIFA World Cup match hosting this month and the 2028 Olympics, Bass recently said this is “no time for amateurs.”
Even if the previously Bass endorsing Raman withheld support for the Mayor, the bulk of her vote will surely go to the incumbent. In fact, even some of Pratt’s support could end up in the Bass camp now they got the protest vote out of their system in a city screaming out for change and leadership.
Huddled inside a private party at West L.A.’s Don Antonio, Pratt has not come out to speak publicly. Either way, while former Palisades resident and self-declared villain Pratt hasn’t out-and-out won tonight and victory in the fall is unlikely, the Reality TV regular can declare victory of a sorts out of Tuesday’s primary in more way than one.

California Governor Primary Results: Steve Hilton, Xavier Becerra Lead
Former Fox News host Steve Hilton, a Republican, and former Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, a Democrat, led in initial returns in the race for California governor.
According to the results, per the AP, the two candidates were nearly tied, with each drawing about 26% of the vote, with about half of the ballots in. In California’s open primary, the top two finishers will advance to the November election, regardless of party.
Tom Steyer, a billionaire Democrat who has spent nearly $200 million on advertising, per the AP, was trailing in third place, hovering at around 20% of the vote.
“It’s encouraging,” Hilton told CNN. “What we’re really watching is the gap between me and the third place candidate, Tom Steyer. As long as that gap stays roughly where it is, then Californians will have a choice for change in the general election.”
The race to succeed Gavin Newsom was perhaps most notable for what it was not: inspiring. None of the candidates electrified any of the debates, as the large field of contenders strategized to win one of the two slots on the November ballot. That meant extensive verbal sparring in the forums.
Another Republican, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, was drawing about 11%, while former congresswoman Katie Porter, San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan and former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa were in the single digits.
Earlier in the evening, Villaraigosa conceded, after what was his second bid for governor. In his statement, he offered a warning to Democrats of voter discontent.
“California is at an inflection point, and our representatives and my Party need to start taking these challenges seriously so that we can once again make California the envy of the nation and the globe,” he said.
If Becerra and Hilton end up as the top two voter getters, it will set up a rather traditional Democrat vs. Republican contest. But Hilton is likely to hammer Becerra as a creature of the state’s Democratic establishment.
Becerra, who would be the state’s first Latino governor if elected, has emphasized his experience, not just in the Biden cabinet but as the California attorney general who previously had a long tenure in Congress. He was far back in the polls until Eric Swalwell dropped out of the race in April, amid sexual misconduct allegations.
