Nancy Guthrie Case: Sheriff’s Depart. Makes Arrest Outside Matriarch’s Home
The Pima County Sheriff’s department arrested an individual in front of Nancy Guthrie’s home Thursday evening. However, the arrest did not appear to be tied to the disappearance of “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie‘s missing mother.
“On June 11, 2026, just before 5 p.m., deputies with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department arrested 54-year-old Alexander Zabel Jr. in front of Nancy Guthrie’s home,” the sheriff’s department shared in a statement posted to X. “PCSD had received several complaints regarding Mr. Zabel’s behavior. At the time of the incident, Mr. Zabel was live streaming from outside the residence. Deputies made contact with him and, during the arrest process, a PCSD sergeant was knocked to the ground.”
The statement continued: “Mr. Zabel was subsequently taken into custody without further incident and booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex. He is facing charges of resisting arrest (Class 6 felony) and public nuisance (Class 2 misdemeanor).”
The update came hours after the sheriff’s department also addressed a search for a grave site in Mexico prompted by an anonymous tip claiming to know the whereabouts of Guthrie’s alleged remains.
“We are aware of reports regarding an anonymous tip related to the Nancy Guthrie investigation that was provided to a group in Mexico,” the sheriff’s office said earlier on Thursday. “At this time, we have not been contacted by Mexican authorities.”
They continued: “This investigation remains active and ongoing, and we will continue to follow up on any credible information.”
Ramona Guadalupe Ayala Ortiz, the head of Buscando Corazones Nogales, a group known for assisting in locating missing people in Mexico, previously told El Imparcial that they received a tip on Wednesday relating to the “Today” anchor’s 84-year-old mother. Specifically, Ayala Ortiz shared that the group was given an anonymous tip-off that the Guthrie matriarch, who was seemingly taken from her Tucson, Ariz. home back in February, was buried in an unmarked grave near the border.
However, the search for Guthrie came up empty.
The Guthrie matriarch was last seen on the evening of Jan. 31, when family dropped her off at her Tucson home following a dinner and a game night. However, by late-midday on Feb. 1, the elder Guthrie was reported missing after she didn’t show up at a friend’s place to watch a virtual church service. Pima County investigators later shared that they believed Guthrie was taken against her will.
Guthrie’s security camera, which had been disabled, later revealed images of a man in a ski mask, jacket, gloves and a backpack outside her property. FBI Phoenix later described the suspect “as a male, approximately 5’9” – 5’10” tall, with an average build.”
Savannah, along with her siblings, have made several public pleas for their mother’s safe return.
No one has been arrested or named a suspect in connection with Guthrie’s disappearance, despite multiple searches, analyzed DNA, alleged ransom notes and more.

Taylor Swift Fans Are Loving Her A-List Cameraman at Songwriters Hall of Fame
Taylor Swift appeared to have a very famous cameraman as she celebrated her induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. That’s right, famed director Steven Spielberg was spotted documenting the Grammy winner and her fiancé, Travis Kelce, as they danced the night away at Thursday’s celebration.
The X video, which had already been viewed over 70,000 times nearly two hours after being uploaded, saw Swift dancing with the NFL tight end while filming one of the night’s performers. She then panned the camera to herself and Kelce before handing the phone down to Spielberg, who was situated directly next to her at the dinner table.
Spielberg happily took the camera and continued to film the engaged couple, who are rumored to be getting married later this summer.
Of course, it didn’t take long for the internet to react to the A-list exchange, with some labeling it as simply “iconic.”
“Taylor asking Spielberg to film her & Travis dancing is like universes crossing over,” one fan wrote on X. “Thats so freaking epic. My mind just can’t handle all of this.”
Another chimed in with, “That’s so iconic!!!”
Many applauded Swift’s choice of cameraman, with one fan putting it best with: “He would get the good lighting.” Another fan expressed a similar sentiment, writing, “Ask the expert.”
Though, there was some debate over whether it was Swift who asked Spielberg for the on-camera moment or vice versa.
“It was HIS phone. He puts it back in his pocket at the end,” one Swiftie defended before critics could go after the pop star. A second fan also commented, “Other way around, it’s Spielberg’s phone and he gave it to her to film.”
Regardless, plenty of stars were in attendance for Thursday’s event, which saw Swift, Kenny Loggins, Alanis Morissette, KISS’ Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, Christopher “Tricky” Stewart, Walter Afanasieff, Terry Britten and Graham Lyle all inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

Seth Meyers Compares Trump’s “Deal” With Iran To HBO Rebrands
Seth Meyers missed out taking a dunk on President Donald Trump after he fell asleep during the Knicks loss to the San Antonia Spurs the other night, but he opened his latest A Closer Look segment with another buzzer beater.
The Late Night host mocked the fact that Trump missed the Knicks huge comeback win last night.
“Last night, we got an answer to the question ‘How long does it take to get Donald Trump’s bad vibes out of a building he recently visited? The answer was two and a half quarters. What a night for the Knicks,” he said. “It’s kind of sad that he missed the game because if anybody needs to know that a 29 point comeback is possible, it’s hum after looking at his approval ratings.”
Meyers segment was largely focused on Trump’s repeated broken promises of a deal with Iran, a move that even some Fox News hosts have started to question. This comes after Trump once again noted that a deal would be announced shortly.
The NBC host compared Trump’s repeated lies about the war in Iran to HBO’s repeated streaming rebrands.
“It’s no surprise that even conservative news outlets are losing patience,” he said. “Trump has promised a deal with Iran more times than HBO has rebranded. At this point, we’ve been through Iran Deal, Iran Deal Go, Iran Deal Now, Iran Deal Plus, Iran Deal Max to just Max, back to Iran Deal Max, back to Iran Deal Plus. I just hope we get a spin off called The Pitt of Hormuz.”

Steven Spielberg’s Advice for ‘Obsession’ and ‘Backrooms’ Directors
Steven Spielberg is extending his wisdom from decades of filmmaking experience to two of horror’s most in-demand young directors.
While appearing on a recent episode of The Rest Is Entertainment, Spielberg was asked what advice he would give to 26-year-old Obsession director Curry Barker and 20-year-old Backrooms director Kane Parsons, noting that Spielberg himself was also in his 20s when he directed Jaws (1975), which went on to win three Academy Awards.
“Don’t let success go to your heads,” the Disclosure Day director quickly responded. “Do not let wild success go to your heads, because when you make your next movie, you’re starting from scratch.”
“It’s always good to have a big hit to shore up your reputation, and you’re going to get a lot of respect from executives, from the film world and from the studios. But the advice I’d give them is something I had to learn the hard way: We all start over again,” he continued. “And if you get the chance to make 20 or 30 films in your career, you will discover, maybe on your second or third film, that you’re beginning your career all over again at the outset of every single project.”
Both Obsession and Backrooms have scored big at the box office. Obsession, released May 15, has grossed $238.7 million globally, becoming the highest-grossing festival acquisition of all time (Toronto International Film Festival) as well as Focus Features’ biggest film ever. The movie was made on a budget of $750,000 and also holds a 94 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Meanwhile, Backrooms, debuting May 29, has grossed $220.6 million worldwide against a $10 million budget. The film became A24’s highest-grossing movie of all time in North America and holds an 88 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. (Learn more about Parsons and Backrooms here.)
On Thursday, Barker appeared on Today and reacted to Spielberg’s recent comments about the film, saying he “loved” Obsession. Barker appeared starstruck by the praise. “I can’t believe it,” he said.
