Cardinals OL Isaiah Adams reports to camp amid firearm charges in Canada

Published

on

TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman Isaiah Adams reported for camp Wednesday after four firearms charges were filed against him earlier this month in Canada — charges his attorney says Adams intends to fight.

“Isaiah is completely innocent in this matter — he had no knowledge of any firearm, and he will be fully exonerated,” Toronto-based attorney Adam Weisberg said in a statement.

Adams, 26, is a projected starter on Arizona’s offensive line. Per a police report from the Durham Regional Police Service in Ontario, he was charged with possession of a firearm obtained by crime, possession of a restricted/prohibited firearm without a license, possession of a loaded firearm and possession of a prohibited device.

“We are aware of the situation involving Isaiah Adams,” the Cardinals said in a statement. “Out of respect for the process, we will refrain from commenting further at this time.”

On July 17, a Guns and Gangs unit investigation resulted in the arrest of four individuals, including Adams. Per the report, the investigation centered on a man believed to be in possession of a firearm and involved in drug trafficking. The suspect and a woman were stopped in a vehicle in Ajax and taken into custody without incident. A search of the vehicle found over 3 kilograms of suspected fentanyl.

Investigators, with the assistance of a drug enforcement unit, later executed a search warrant at a home in Pickering. A woman in the residence was taken into custody without incident. Police say they found a loaded firearm with a prohibited overcapacity magazine and a replica Uzi firearm inside. The loaded firearm was determined to be stolen from Georgia. On July 19, the fourth suspect, believed to be Adams, turned himself in to police.

Adams’ legal trouble is the latest off-the-field distraction for the Cardinals, who will have their first training-camp practice Thursday. The NFL last week suspended executive Ryan Gold indefinitely for violating the league’s gambling policy. Gold, the team’s director of college scouting, plans to appeal. In addition, projected starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett’s holdout for a new contract is without resolution.

Adams is from Ajax, a town in Ontario. He attended Pickering Secondary School. In 2024, the Cardinals selected him in the third round of the NFL Draft with the 71st pick. Last year, he started 11 games for Arizona, which finished 3-14.
