Another Lanterns trailer dropped today during the series Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con and while we know the actin of the series take place in a Nebraska small town with recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and mentor legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) dealing with a small murder, we see the action head to space in the massive galaxy that we know.

Also showing up here in the trailer is Sinestro. In the show, Jordan is training Stewart to be the ultimate intergalactic cop.

Two clips were also shown during the panel, showing how grounded and riveting this series is over the lampoon sensibility of the Marin Campbell directed, Ryan Reynolds starring big screen take.

In the first clip, we Jordan picking up a very obedient Stewart. Jordan asks him if he’s used the ring.

“I haven’t worked the ring yet, I thought the point was the Guardians choose me.” Jordan flips Stewart the ring while driving. “I’ll be at a taco stand down the road, meet me there.” Jordan jumps out of the car while it’s in motion, which flings off a cliff. Stewart grabs the ring activating it, before the car crashes in the canyon below. Moments later, Hal is taking photos gleefully with fans at the taco stand as Stewart arrives, ticked off.

In the second clip, Hal is in the police station, grilling a suspect who he believes is an alien. He’s able to detect that he’s one given his stock answers about President Barack Obama and the fact that he doesn’t know what school Harry Potter went to. The alien has a ticking bomb that he’ll set off in his head if he’s not released. Hal, unafraid slams him up against the window. The bomb is set. Hal throws the alien to other side of the room, before activating his ring to create a protective bubble as the alien human ignites.

Cast also includes Kelly MacDonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Ulrich Thomsen, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Sherman Augustus, J. Alphonse Nicholson, Jason Ritter, Nathan Fillion, Chris Coy, and Paul Ben-Victor.

Series is produced by HBO in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. The Lanterns pilot is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, who are co-creators for the series. Mundy serves as showrunner. The first two episodes are directed by James Hawes, with Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel and Alik Sakharov also tapped to direct. The series is executive produced by Mundy, Lindelof, James Gunn, Peter Safran, King, Ron Schmidt, and Hawes.

Lanterns was shot at the Warner lot, but all over the California state including Barstow and the Santa Clarita area.

Lanterns premieres on August 16.

After gunshots shut down and postponed the White House Correspondents’ Dinner earlier this year, the event was finally rescheduled to this week, and Americans will be able to watch live as it happens.

“When gunfire interrupted this year’s event, it further clarified the WHCA’s mission to advocate for the freedoms that are protected in the First Amendment,” WHCA President Weijia Jiang wrote in a letter to members last month.

“We will not allow an act of violence to have the last word, especially during a year when we are reflecting on the 250th anniversary of America and everything we stand for.”

Will there be increased security after the shooting?

Yes, there will. In her letter announcing the rescheduled dinner, Jiang wrote that “the event will feature significantly enhanced safety measures and new access procedures. We will share additional details directly with attendees.”

Is Trump still going to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner?

The White House did indeed confirm that President Trump will be attending the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

“Alongside all of you members of the media, the president looks forward to finishing what he started before a despicable assassination attempt derailed the original event back in April,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Thursday.

What is the White House Correspondents’ Association?

The White House Correspondents’ Association is an independent organization that represents journalists covering the president and the White House. Per their official website:

“The WHCA functions as the go-between for the nearly 900 WHCA members (from nearly 300 news organizations of all kinds across the U.S. and the world) and the White House – to fight for the broadest access to officials, policies, events and trips and the smoothest logistics and operations.”

Most days, yes, the president makes his complaints with journalists fairly well known. In fact, he does it so often than more than 500 journalists have called on the White House Correspondents’ Association to confront President Donald Trump on Friday over his continued attacks on the free press.

“Since the first dinner was canceled in April, President Trump has escalated his attacks on journalists and news organizations,” Lisa Stark, a former ABC News correspondent who helped organize the message, said in a statement to TheWrap. “The WHCA cannot normalize this behavior.”
