Tour De France: Tadej Pogacar Dominates For Record Tying Fifth Win

Published

on

Tadej Pogacar is in rare company after winning a record-tying fifth Tour de France. Only four others are credited with the achievement: Belgian Eddy Merckx, Spaniard Miguel Indurain and Frenchmen Bernard Hinault and Jacques Anquetil. (American Lance Armstrong stood on the winners podium seven times, but was stripped of his titles in 2012 after a doping investigation.)

Pogacar, who rides for team UAE Team Emirates-XRG, dominated the race nearly from the start, taking the yellow jersey in the sixth stage and holding it for the final 15. His margin of victory this morning was a comfortable 6 minutes, 26 seconds.

The 27-year-old Solvenian is the youngest to win the race five times and, if he wants them, looks to have many chances ahead to break the record. Some may point to the fact that the man who beat Pogacar in 2022 and 2023, Danish racer Jonas Vingegaard, broke his collarbone in a crash in stage 15, which helped clear the way for the Slovenian to be first in Paris this year. But Pogacar was already four-and-a-half minutes ahead.

After the penultimate stage of the grueling race, Pogacar did not sound sanguine about his prospects for future Tour wins.

“I definitely will not be doing this for too much long time, I think,” he told European broadcaster TNT Sports.

Here in the U.S., NBC Sports will presented three weeks of live coverage of the Tour on NBC, Peacock and NBCSN. It concluded with today’s final stage on NBC.

Tom Holland Says Some of His Movies Are Bad, Making Promotion Hard

Published

on

Tom Holland is getting candid about the challenge of promoting a film that he wasn’t exactly a fan of.

During a recent interview on the Dish Podcast, the actor said he’s been “absolutely loving” his press tours this summer for The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day because he’s really proud of those movies. But he can’t say that about all the projects in his filmography.

“When you’re doing press for movies you’re really proud of, it’s really easy,” he explained. “Because when they ask you questions about why should people go and watch this movie, you’re not lying to anyone. You really feel like people should go see it.”

“I’ve had experiences before when people say, like, ‘Why should you see this movie?’ And in the back of your mind, you’re like, ‘You shouldn’t, because it’s shit,’” he added with a laugh.

Holland didn’t name the specific films he was referring to, as he would have much rather continued the high praise of his latest pics. “It’s felt really like a bit of a victory lap, to be honest,” Holland said of The Odyssey and Brand New Day. “I’ve really enjoyed it. I’m super proud of both of the films.”

The Christopher Nolan-directed pic, based on Homer’s ancient Greek poem, follows King Odysseus’ (Matt Damon) dangerous voyage back to Ithaca after the Trojan War, including battles with mythical creatures, as he attempts to reunite with his wife, Penelope (Anne Hathaway), and son, Telemachus ( Holland). The film also stars Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, Corey Hawkins, Jon Bernthal, Samantha Morton, Travis Scott and Benny Safdie.

Since The Odyssey has already hit theaters — where it’s been dominating, sailing past $600 million globally in its second weekend — The Crowded Room actor has turned his attention back to Spider-Man promotion, which releases on July 31.

But he’s still grateful for everything he’s learned from his Odyssey co-stars throughout the film’s respective press tour. “I’ve had the pleasure of sitting down with Anne Hathaway for the last three days and doing press with her,” Holland said. “For me, that’s been an awesome learning experience. She’s such a pro.”

As for Brand New Day, Holland reunites with his wife, Zendaya, onscreen and Jacob Batalon for the fourth installment. The film sees Holland’s Peter Parker living entirely alone as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him. That’s until mounting pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him triggers a dangerous change, while a powerful new villain emerges.

Maya Jama On Future As ‘Love Island UK’ Host & Rumors She’s Replacing Emma Willis As ‘The Voice UK’ Season 15 Host

Published

on

Maya Jama is a multifaceted personality as the host of Love Island UK and is set to star in Netflix’s The Gentleman Season 2.

As Jama expands her talents into other areas, there have been rumors that she is looking to step away from the ITV2 dating series.

“I never know,” Jama told Deadline. “[The UK press] always do this. Every time I do a series — that’s happened for the last three years — they’ll say, ‘Maya is leaving.’ And I think they just throw it out there just in case. Then people grab onto it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, are you leaving?’”

She continued, “But I never decide if I’m doing the next series until the end of one. So it’s fake news that I’m leaving, but I always decide at the end of a series if I’m going to continue the next year. So we’ll find out.”

Jama clarified that when she signs on to host Love Island UK, the contract also includes hosting Love Island All Stars, which typically runs at the beginning of each other (in the winter months), but she will not know until she finishes her current duties as host of Season 13.

With Jama being so beloved by the public and reaching new audiences via Hulu, which holds the rights to Love Island UK in the U.S., the high-profile host is in demand. A new rumor that came up recently was that she would be taking over as The Voice UK host after longtime presenter Emma Willis. Willis recently was confirmed as one of the hosts of BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing and is reportedly leaving the ITV1 singing competition after Season 14 ends later this year.

“Oh yeah, so funny,” Jama said on the rumors she’s hosting The Voice UK. “The UK press… they just fling everything out there. I’m not hosting that.”

The Love Island UK Season 13 finale is set for Monday, July 27 on ITV2 in the UK, with U.S. audiences able to stream the final episode on Thursday, July 30 on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.
