Manga creator Afro‘s health worsened due to stress of serializing 2 manga simultaneously

The editors of both Houbunsha‘s Manga Time Kirara magazine and Comic Fuz website announced on Monday that manga creator Afro will go on hiatus due to their health worsening from the stress of serializing two manga at the same time. As a result, the Laid-Back Camp manga and mono manga will both go on hiatus. Both manga will return at dates to be announced later by their respective editors.

Afro launched the Laid-Back Camp (Yurucamp) manga in Houbunsha‘s Manga Time Kirara Forward magazine in 2015, and moved it to Comic Fuz website in 2019. Houbunsha published the manga’s 18th compiled book volume in November 2025. Yen Press began releasing the manga in English in March 2018.

The anime’s first season premiered in January 2018. The second season of the anime premiered in January 2021. An anime film based on the manga opened in July 2022. The third television anime season premiered in April 2024. The fourth season will debut in 2027. Crunchyroll streamed the three anime seasons and distributes the anime film.

A live-action television series adaptation of the original manga premiered in January 2019.

Afro launched the mono four-panel manga in Houbunsha‘s Manga Time Kirara Carat in March 2017. Houbunsha released the manga’s fifth volume in June 2025. Yen Press is releasing the manga in English. The manga inspired a television anime that premiered in April 2025. Crunchyroll streamed the anime.

Manga launched in 2017, inspired 2023 live-action film

Kujira Anan‘s And Yet, You Are So Sweet (Na no ni, Chigira-kun ga Amasugiru) manga ended with the fourth and final part of the manga’s 60th and final chapter on July 22.

Anan announced on their blog on May 17 that the manga would end in its 60th chapter.

Kodansha USA Publishing licensed the manga and is releasing it digitally. The company describes the manga:

Maaya Kisaragi, 16 years old, finally confessed to her crush…only to be flatly rejected and ridiculed on social media after. To make matters worse, the most popular guy in her grade, Chigira-kun, overheard her despondent muttering about the whole thing. But instead of making fun of her, he comforts her…and proposes an odd solution to her heartbreak!

Anan launched the manga in Dessert Pink, the supplement to Kodansha‘s Dessert magazine, in 2017. The manga transferred to the main Dessert magazine in November 2020. Kodansha published the manga’s 14th compiled book volume on March 13. Kodansha USA released the 14th volume on July 14.

The manga inspired a live-action film that opened in Japan in March 2023.

The staff for Baki THE GRAPPLER STAGE announced on Tuesday that Baki Gaiden: Retsu Kaioh wa Isekai Tensei Shitemo Ikkō ni Kamawan (Baki Side Story – Retsu Kaioh Doesn’t Mind At All If He Gets Reincarnated in Another World), a spinoff manga of Keisuke Itagaki‘s Baki manga, is getting a stage play adaptation titled Baki THE GRAPPLER STAGE Gaiden -Retsu Kaioh wa Isekai Tensei Shitemo Ikkō ni Kamawan. The stage play will run from March 19-22, 2027 at Owl Spot (Toshima Ward Performing Arts Exchange Center) in Tokyo.

Riku Noma, who played Retsu Kaioh in the two previous Baki stage plays, will star in the new show. The Baki stage plays’ director and writer Daisuke Tanaka also returns for the show.

The Baki Gaiden: Retsu Kaioh wa Isekai Tensei Shitemo Ikkō ni Kamawan manga launched in Akita Shoten‘s Monthly Shōnen Champion magazine in 2020. Eiji Mutsui is drawing the manga, and Keisuke Itagaki and Sai Ihara (Daisuke Ihara) are credited for the original concept and story, respectively. Aktia Shoten published the manga’s first compiled book volume in May 2021, and the 16th volume on March 6.

The manga centers on the Kenpo-style master Retsu Kaioh reincarnating into another world, after losing his life in a battle with swordsman Musashi Miyamoto.

The first stage play titled Baki THE GRAPPLER STAGE -Chika Tōgiba-hen- (Baki The Grappler STAGE -Underground Arena Arc-) ran at Shinjuku Face in December 2024. Hideaki Okuzumi choreographed the fight scenes.

The second stage play titled Baki THE GRAPPLER STAGE 2 -Saikyō Shikeishū-hen- (Baki The Grappler STAGE 2 -The Most Sinister Death Row Convict Arc-) ran again at Shinjuku Face from July 23-28. Yūgo Satō played Baki Hanma in the two stage plays.

Itagaki’s original Baki The Grappler martial arts manga ran for 42 volumes in Akita Shoten‘s Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine from 1991 to 1999. Kodama Tales began publishing the manga worldwide in English in October 2025.

The Baki sequel manga ran for 31 volumes from 1999 to 2005. Media Do releases the manga in English. After Baki, Itagaki published the 37-volume Hanma Baki manga in Weekly Shōnen Champion from 2005 to 2012. The first Baki-Dou manga, the overall fourth manga in the franchise, launched in Weekly Shōnen Champion in March 2014 and ended in April 2018 with 22 volumes.

A new Baki-Dou manga launched in Weekly Shōnen Champion in October 2018, and it ended in June 2023. (The new Baki-Dou manga uses different characters for “Baki” in the title from the previous Baki-Dou manga, although it retains the name “Baki-Dou.”) The latest manga in the franchise, Baki Rahen, launched in Weekly Shōnen Champion in August 2023.

The new anime of Itagaki’s Baki (New Grappler Baki: In Search of Our Strongest Hero) manga debuted its first season on Netflix in June 2018 inside Japan, and it ran for 26 episodes ending in December 2018. Netflix posted the first 13 episodes outside of Japan in December 2018, followed by the second half of the first season in March 2019.

The Baki: Dai Raitaisai-hen anime then debuted worldwide on Netflix with all episodes at once in June 2020.

Baki Hanma is the third Baki series on Netflix, and a sequel to the Baki: Dai Raitaisai-hen series. The anime debuted worldwide on Netflix in September 2021 with all 12 episodes.

The second season of Baki Hanma debuted worldwide on Netflix in July 2023, with the “Tale of Pickle & The Pickle War Saga” story. The anime’s “The Father VS Son Saga” story debuted in August 2023.

BAKI-DOU: The Invincible Samurai, the anime of Keisuke Itagaki‘s first Baki-Dou manga, premiered worldwide on Netflix on February 26. The anime’s first 13 episodes were made available all at once. The second part or cours (quarter of a year) premiered exclusively worldwide on Netflix on June 18. All 12 episodes were made available at once.

Ryūto’s The Faceless Mercenary Wants to Settle Down Light Novels Get Manga Adaptation – News

This year’s August issue of Square Enix‘s Monthly Big Gangan magazine announced on July 24 that Ryūto‘s The Faceless Mercenary Wants to Settle Down: Homestead at the Edge of the Galaxy (Faceless Dropout) light novel series is getting a manga adaptation that will launch in the magazine’s next issue on August 25. Daichi Matsuse (Goblin Slayer: A Day in the Life, Re:ZERO -Starting Life In Another World- Chapter 1: A Day in the Capital) is drawing the manga.

Seven Seas Entertainment will publish the light novel’s first volume digitally under its Airship imprint on October 27. The company describes the story:

Faceless, fearsome mercenary Glenn is cashing in his chips. These days, battle appeals less than…agriculture! A charming farm on a far-flung planet gives the longtime soldier the opportunity for reinvention, allowing him to delve into pastoral passions. But even as a farmer, Glenn can detect a threat in no time. And when he discovers that a new neighbor is being harassed, he’s bound to fall back on his usual strategy: cybernetically enhanced combat!

Ryūto launched the story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō (Let’s Become Novelists) website in July 2024. The story then launched on the Kakuyomu website in August that same year. Kadokawa started publishing the novels with illustration by Heiro in July 2025.

Ryūto began serializing the Reborn as a Space Mercenary: I Woke Up Piloting the Strongest Starship! (Mezametara Saikyō Sōbi to Uchūsen Mochi Datta no de, Ikkodate Mezashite Yōhei Toshite Jiyū ni Ikitai) light novel series on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in February 2019, where it is still ongoing. Kadokawa published the first volume in print in July 2019, with illustrations by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima. Seven Seas has licensed both the light novels and Shinichi Matsui‘s manga adaptation. The light novel series is inspiring a television anime adaptation that will debut in October.
