Kodansha USA Publishing releases the manga and describes the story:

A boy named Kaboku sees a girl named Wanda dance, and suddenly burns with a need to join in. With its thrilling scenes of Japanese hip-hop dance and quirky, charming characters, this is a new, inspirational manga for fans of coming-of-age stories like Blue Period and Your Lie in April. Get up and join the Wandance!

Kaboku has always just gone with the flow, marching in step to the drumbeat of the expectations of those around him: parents, school, plans for the future. It feels predictable, safe, and… empty. But one night, Kaboku’s at school late, and he happens on a girl alone, moving wildly, turning a blank space of concrete into a canvas. This is Hikari Wanda, a member of the hip-hop dance club. Kaboku is immediately smitten, but the road to stepping out of his shell is a long one. The club is almost entirely girls, and they’re all, well, way better than him. What’s ahead is unknown, and that’s terrifying, but it also means, for the first time in Kaboku’s life… a taste of freedom.

&Team boy band member JO plays the film’s protagonist Kaboku Kotani, and Anji Ikehata (Yano-kun no Futsū no Hibi, Lonely Castle in the Mirror) stars as Hikari Wanda. Other cast members include Kira Yamaguchi as On Miyao, RAN Mazzel as Iori Itsukushima, TSUKKI as Gaku Kabeya, and Aloha Takamatsu as Usen Takumi.

Naoya Kusaba is directing the film, with a script by Keiichi Kobayashi. Dancer and entrepreneur Charisma Kantarō is supervising the film’s dances.

The film will open in Japan on November 27.

Coffee launched the manga in Afternoon magazine in 2019, and is simultaneously published in Kodansha‘s Magazine Pocket app. Kodansha published the manga’s 15th compiled book volume in December 2025. Kodansha USA Publishing will release the 14th volume in English on November 2026.

A television anime adaptation debuted in Japan in October 2025. Disney+ streamed the anime as it aired in Japan.

Pre-orders begin this week for Switch, PS5, PC game

Arc System Works revealed on Thursday a new pre-order trailer for Disgaea creator Sōhei Niikawa and SuperNiche’s new game Demons’ Night Fever., and it reveals that the game will debut on October 22 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. Pre-orders for the game have begun on Steam, while physical edition pre-orders begin on Friday for PS5 and Switch.

Arc System Works describes the game’s story:

This is a story of another Earth, different from the one we live on.
Giga Super Death, the most wicked Devil of all, was just one step away from killing God… when suddenly, he was transformed into a helpless baby.

Anticipating such a crisis, he had been working through the night to develop the “DEMONS’ NIGHT FEVER” resurrection program—and finally, it was time to activate it.

Was it a prank of fate, or inevitable destiny? The one ensnared in this suspicious ritual was Killshiro Katanaka, a gloomy young man who despises the world.

Due to their aligned interests, a bizarre pact was formed. This is the story of pure EVIL, starring the Devil himself and his newfound disciple, Killshiro.

The genre of the game is listed as: “Enemies? Allies? Kill Kill Kill! The more you die, the stronger you become! Raising Speedrunning Simulation RPG.”

Tatsuya Yano (former Gust and Atelier series composer) is composing the music for the game and Yuji Himukai is the character designer. Roman Kitayama is credited with the original story and scenario.

The game stars:

Niikawa resigned from his position of Nippon Ichi Software president in 2022 due to personal reasons. He revealed his new game company SuperNiche in March 2025.

Niikawa joined Nippon Ichi Software in 1996. He worked for five years in sales and promotion. He became president and CEO in 2009. He discussed his rise within the company with ANN in an interview in 2012. Niikawa also served as president of NIS America. He is often credited with the creation of the Disgaea game series.

Yoshi-P: “There’s a chance they could turn into a four-part or even a five-part series.”

Final Fantasy XIV director and producer Naoki Yoshida (often referred to as Yoshi-P) commented on the difficulties of remaking Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy VIII, and Final Fantasy IX during an appearance at the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2026 in Berlin. In his comments, Yoshida states, “I understand the sentiment, but just think about it for a second. The scale is unreal. That goes for VI, VIII, and IX. “I understand people saying, ‘Since 7 got a remake, please remake these too,’ but there’s a chance they could turn into a four-part or even a five-part series.” Yoshida’s comments are available on the Final Fantasy XIV series’ YouTube channel.

Yoshi-P’s comments came after Final Fantasy VII Remake series director Naoki Hamaguchi was asked about a game that had a lasting impression or influence on him. Hamaguchi notes he has said in interviews Final Fantasy VI is a game that had the biggest impact on his life. However, he further states media outlets have blown his answer out of proportion and claim “Hamaguchi is remaking Final Fantasy VI”, to which the Final Fantasy VII Remake series director always refutes.

The Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Berlin took place at the Messe Berlin, hub27 between July 25-26. The next Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival is set to take place at the Makuhari Messe on October 31-November 1.

The Fan Fest revealed a collaboration with Final Fantasy VII Remake for its Normal Raids in the “Evercold” expansion for Square Enix‘s Final Fantasy XIV MMORPG. The event also unveiled the new Tank job “Bastion.”

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake, debuted worldwide in February 2024 on two discs for PlayStation 5. The game then launched on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store in January 2025, and then launched for Nintendo Switch 2 on June 3. The final game in the Rebirth trilogy Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch next spring.

Update: Headline fixed. Thanks, varmintx.

Criterion Channel Adds Neon Genesis Evangelion Anime, Evangelion: Death (True)², The End of Evangelion Films on September 1 – News

GKIDS licensed original 1995 TV anime, both films

Neon Genesis Evangelion

The Criterion Collection‘s streaming service Criterion Channel announced on Thursday that it will add the Neon Genesis Evangelion television anime and the Evangelion: Death (True)² (also known as Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth) and The End of Evangelion films on September 1.

GKIDS licensed the original television series and the two above-mentioned films in 2020. The company recently screened the two films in theaters on July 21 and 22.

The original anime and films are some of the most influential and critically acclaimed works in the history of the medium, but had long remained out of print and unavailable in North America. ADV Films‘ last release of the anime was the “Platinum Edition” DVDs in 2004 and 2005. The company shut down in 2009.

Netflix began streaming the 1995 television anime in June 2019, and it describes the story:

A.D. 2015. Tokyo 3 is under attack by powerful creatures known as the Angels. The protagonist, Shinji Ikari, is chosen to pilot the Humanoid Decisive Weapon Evangelion — the only way for humanity to fight against the Angels. The battle for the fate of humanity starts now. What exactly are the Angels? What fate awaits the young pilots and humanity itself?

The franchise has inspired numerous spinoffs, merchandise, and collaborations. Hideaki Anno, the director of the anime, founded Studio Khara in 2006. He and the studio began producing a new tetralogy of films titled Rebuild of Evangelion, which reinterprets the events in the series. The tetralogy began with Evangelion 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone in 2007, followed by Evangelion 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance and Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo in 2009 and 2012, respectively.

Evangelion: 3.0+1.01: Thrice Upon A Time (Shin Evangelion Gekijō-ban :||), the final film of Hideaki Anno‘s Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy, opened in Japan on March 8, 2021, and ranked #1 in its opening weekend. The film surpassed 10 billion yen (about US$74 million) in the Japanese box office. The film’s Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 version began playing in June 2021 for the film’s “last run.” The new version contains “minor revisions” to some animation sequences, but does not change the film’s story. The film debuted on the Amazon Prime Video service worldwide in August 2021. GKIDS and Fathom Events screened the film in Japanese with English subtitles in U.S. theaters in December 2022.

The franchise is getting a new series.

A new anime short premiered at the “Evangelion:30+;” festival on February 21, and officially started streaming on March 8.

Criterion Channel began adding anime to the service in August 2025. The service added Gunbuster: The Movie and the first season of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex in March, added Gatchaman The Movie in April, and began streaming the K-ON! film in May.
