Vondrousova, who also reached the French Open final in 2019 and won the Tokyo 2020 Olympics silver medal, claimed she feared for her safety when the doping officer arrived at her flat at 8pm on 3 December.

She was alone in her apartment and told the officer via the intercom that she would not open the door.

The tribunal’s report said Vondrousova called her agent to ask about doping protocol, and sent a text message to her boyfriend which said someone from doping control had arrived – using an expletive to describe them.

There is some dispute about what happened next, with the doping officer saying the pair had two exchanges over the intercom, but Vondrousova saying there was only one.

Both sides agree they met face-to-face about 10 minutes later when Vondrousova went outside to walk her Italian Greyhound dog.

That is when Vondrousova reiterated she would not take the test and signed a form which acknowledged her stance.

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) – the body tasked with overseeing a clean and fair sport – said it had little option other than to seek a four-year suspension.

The tribunal agreed with the ITIA. It ruled she had provided “no compelling justification” for refusing a test.

On Friday, the tribunal said: “This is a very unfortunate manner in which the player made a decision in the heat of the moment to refuse doping control, in a state of stress and anxiety, with significant consequences.”

ATLANTA — As the MLB trade deadline nears, the Atlanta Braves’ approach should be simple: add starting pitching to bolster their chances to make a deep run in the postseason and a bat or two that can add the extra thump needed in the lineup.

Every year, the deadline is prime time for fans to make their own trade proposals, some that are realistic, others that really make you think about the outcome for both sides and others that are completely out of reach.

We took to X to get everyone’s arm chair GM proposals. Below are six that caught our attention as being worthy of further analysis. I’ve offered my thoughts on each deal and asked a talent evaluator with an MLB club who is being granted anonymity because he is not authorized to speak about potential trades publicly to give his expert opinion. Let’s have some fun!

Trade proposal: Braves receive LHP Reid Detmers and OF Jo Adell from the Angels in exchange for RHP JR Ritchie, SS Alex Lodise, LHP Hayden Harris and OF Luis Guanipa — @erinnicole17

Evaluator: Good concept. Solid offer from Atlanta but Angels may want a little more back. A controllable Detmers costs a big price tag and Adell fits their outfield needs and brings home run slug. Ritchie is an experienced young arm that fits in the rotation right away. Angels would really be banking on Lodise and Guanipa to be contributors down the road. Harris has options and is left-handed but is toward the bottom of Atlanta’s 40-man roster.

Cano: The return for the Braves is ideal here. Adell has a .940 OPS against left-handed pitching with 10 home runs and 29 RBIs. The Braves as a whole have .697 OPS versus left-handers, so Adell would be a great addition. The real prize here, however, is Detmers, who is having a career-year and is under control until 2029. Going off our evaluator’s opinion on Angels maybe wanting more, perhaps swapping out Harris with Ethan Bagwell could seal the deal since Bagwell has more projection.

Trade proposal: Braves receive LHP Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for RHP AJ Smith-Shawver, SS John Gil, RHP Owen Murphy and RHP Blake Burkhalter — @kaceynjohnson

Evaluator: Detroit probably says no. The quantity is appealing but who in the return from Atlanta is a true impact player/pitcher in there to help fill part of Skubal’s shoes? Got to really believe in Gil.

Cano: We needed to include a Skubal trade here. The Braves would probably need to swap out Smith-Shawver with Cam Caminiti as a centerpiece for this trade. At that point, the price would be too steep for the Braves to pay, and teams like the Dodgers and Brewers have strong prospect capital to offer.

Trade proposal: Braves receive OF Taylor Ward from the Orioles in exchange for OF Diego Tornes — @Tseal14

Evaluator: Ward fits a big need for Atlanta and they give up a lower level lottery ticket. I don’t think the Braves hesitate to take that veteran presence. Baltimore should demand a safer return. Tornes is very talented and projectable, he is also very risky — an arrow down guy in the Florida Complex League.

Cano: This could end up being a trade similar to the one the Dodgers did by sending Yordan Alvarez to the Astros for right-hander Josh Fields if Tornes is able to reach his potential. Not sure if the Orioles can get much from here, but a much safer bet would be receiving a player like outfielder Luis Guanipa.

Trade proposal: Braves receive LHP Robbie Ray from the San Francisco Giants for RHP Owen Murphy and CF Pat Clohisy — @Galleti14

Evaluator: If the Giants are willing to pay down some of the money, then maybe this could work. This is an overpay from the Braves. Is Ray the right upgrade to move on from the youth of Murphy?

Cano: I agree. Murphy still has plenty of projection, which is a lot to give up for two months of Ray. Perhaps switching with a pitcher like Lucas Braun or Drue Hackenberg would meet the Giants’ asking price.

Trade proposal: Braves receive RHP Casey Mize from the Tigers in exchange for SS Alex Lodise and RHP Blake Burkhalter — @calfenn_

Evaluator: The Tigers get a quality return for a rental in Mize. The Braves would likely view Mize as a frontline guy. Mize comes with some durability concerns. This deal could happen if the price of pitching is up. Lodise may move off shortstop and blend in with the rest of Detroit’s upper-level infield depth who are bat-first. Burkhalter has a ceiling worth acquiring thanks to his makeup and deception to go along with his arm strength.

Cano: It’s more likely the Braves acquire Mize than Skubal at this point. This was my favorite trade because it seems the most realistic. Mize would entirely change the Braves’ rotation depth by giving them quality outings and getting deep into games, something that Braves starters not named Chris Sale have struggled with. Lodise has power, but is likely to move to third base, and the Braves have reloaded in the draft with a few third baseman like Ryne Barker.

Trade proposal: Braves receive LHP Reid Detmers and SS Zach Neto from the Los Angeles Angels for SS Alex Lodise, LHP Cam Caminiti, RHP Luke Sinnard and RHP Blake Burkhalter — @boydpc15

Evaluator: What a blockbuster this would be, but the Angels do not get nearly enough back for their two controllable and impactful players. Caminiti would be the big prize coming back to the Angels. This would be a fleece for Atlanta if the Angels said yes. I do not see this as a realistic trade.

Cano: You’d have to throw Ha-Seong Kim while you’re at it and pay the rest of the money owed on that contract, but getting an impact shortstop like Neto, who also has a strong arm, is worth it. Sinnard has the potential to do so much with his 6-foot-7 frame. Building off the evaluator’s assessment, the Braves would probably need to add a Connor Essenburg or a Isaiah Drake to sweeten the offer.
