Trump “Really Disappointed” In Jeanine Pirro Over Reflecting Pool Case

Donald Trump lashed out at Jeanine Pirro, the former Fox News host serving as U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, after she moved to dismiss a felony indictment of the alleged vandal of the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Trump said that he “was disappointed in Jeanine Pirro. Really disappointed with Jeanine Pirro. She folded like an umbrella, and people get away with things, and it is a disgrace.”

On Friday, Pirro submitted a court filing moving to dismiss the indictment against David Hearn, a former Olympian who was charged earlier in the month for vandalizing the reflecting pool. The pool has been one of Trump’s pet projects in D.C. But soon after a contractor completed work on a protective blue liner, and the pool was refilled, there were reports of coating floating at the surface. In her filing, Pirro wrote that after Hearn’s indictment on July 2, the Department of the Interior provided additional information that the damage was “the result of a botched installation and not vandalism.” The filing pointed to the rush to complete the work by the time of America 250 celebrations.

“Had DOI been forthcoming with the information clearly in its possession, the government would not have sought a grand jury indictment,” the filing stated.

Trump continued to insist that the problems with the pool are the fault of vandalism. But he acknowledged that “we weren’t necessarily thrilled with the contractor, but they did a job, and they were fixing any problems.” He also said that in video footage, it is difficult to discern who individuals are as they reach down into the pool and perhaps pull something out. Trump claimed that the video was proof that the pool was cut, but the footage hardly offers that explicit evidence. FactCheck.org posted in June, “The White House has not provided evidence of people causing long gashes or a series of gashes.”

Trump also claimed the D.C. Superior Court judge in the case was “extremely unfriendly” to Pirro. “Frankly, I think she choked,” Trump told reporters, referring to Pirro.

Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum also has continued to insist that the damage was caused by vandals.

CNN reported on Monday that Trump was considering removing Pirro. A Justice Department spokesperson did not immediately return a request for comment.

Attorney Norm Eisen, representing Hearn, posted on X on Monday, “We’re considering all options to deal with this miscarriage of justice, because a president who can’t let a case go is a president who might try to bring it back.”

‘Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother’ Trailer: Mahershala Ali Movie

Amazon MGM Studios‘ Orion Pictures on Monday released the trailer for Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, the dramatic action thriller starring two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali and written and directed by Bassam Tariq.

The pic was recently set to have its world premiere in the Special Presentations section of September’s Toronto Film Festival, ahead of an awards-season rollout in theaters beginning September 25 in New York and Los Angeles, with expansion set for October.

If Ali’s and Tariq’s names have been floating around of late, it’s because both were once attached to a reboot of Marvel’s Blade back in 2021. Tariq exited the project about the iconic vampire hunter the following year, and it has never gotten off the ground.

Ali said in a GQ interview last week that Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother exists because Blade fell apart, noting that after “working on for over a year training for Blade,” he was approached by Tariq and “was able to use those skills” for the new film.

That brings us to Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, a title gleaned from an Islamic saying about the care and love owed to mothers. The plot centers on an assassin named Latif (Ali) who is navigating single fatherhood and his hidden life after the death of his wife. Per the official logline: “While searching for breast milk for his infant daughter alongside his teenage daughter (Adia) and young son, Latif is unexpectedly pulled into a hit job that places him in direct opposition to influential faith leader Hwan Yoon (John Cho). With the support of his community, he fights to protect his family while confronting his own understanding of faith, grief and responsibility.”

Abubakr Ali, Laith Nakli, Tramell Tillman, Tiffany Boone, Jahleel Kamara and Giancarlo Esposito also star.

Amazon Orders ‘DINKS’ Starring June Diane Raphael & Paul Scheer

Over two years after Amazon ordered a pilot for improv comedy series DINKS, the streamer has handed the June Diane Raphael and Paul Scheer-fronted project a greenlight.

DINKS (Dual Income No Kids) comes from Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman. Deadline revealed the pilot order in April 2024.

It comes out of a deal between Lionsgate and Publicis Media Content Innovation, the entertainment arm of the ad agency.

The improvised multi-camera sitcom follows Josh (Scheer) and Charlie (Raphael), a couple who, in the absence of a marriage or kids, decide to literally build a life together by renovating their nightmare of a dream house.

Co-created by Kauffman, who was also behind Netflix’s long-running comedy Grace and Frankie, and Hannah K.S. Canter, is produced by Kauffman’s Okay Goodnight, Lionsgate Television and Amazon MGM Studios.

Jon Gabrus (Guy Code) also stars.

Kauffman, Canter, Robbie Rowe Tollin and Jesse Schiller executive produce alongside Raphael and Scheer.

A previous version of DINKS – then called A Lot – with the same creative auspices, including Raphael, Scheer, Kauffman and Lionsgate, was set up at CBS in 2023 with a presentation as proof of concept.

2026 finds comedy at a moment of reinvention across platforms.

The last decade has seen stand-up boom, with artists able to bootstrap their own careers like never before. TV comedy has enjoyed a golden moment of its own, though feature comedy continues to struggle to regain its footing as a theatrical entity.

Rather than waiting for opportunities from traditional gatekeepers, creators are increasingly building and financing their own projects — bringing hard-won digital audiences into the traditional space as a bargaining chip. Meanwhile, new incubators are emerging outside established systems in hopes of nurturing the next generation of comedy stars.

The moment presents plenty of questions: What has led to the decline of theatrical comedy? If an “event” is what’s needed to get people to theaters, what does that look like for comedy? How much are stand-ups buying into the traditional space, in a moment when more than ever are making a killing on the road?

Have streamers been good or bad for comedy overall? And where will the next big breakthrough comedies come from?

On July 22, at the kickoff event for Just For Laughs Montreal‘s ComedyPRO, Deadline brought together three creatives representing distinct vantage points within the comedy ecosystem, in an attempt to address these questions: Reg Tigerman, the manager-producer who recently launched The Laugh List, a new survey of the year’s best unproduced comedy screenplays, in association with JFL; Maureen Taran, a former Just For Laughs VP who has been tapped to lead a new original content division for Helium; and Danny Jolles, a comedian, actor, writer and creator of the special What Happens in a Year, which premiered at this year’s festival.

In conversation with Deadline, the trio discusses everything from studio mandates and comedy clubs as incubators for new formats to the blurring lines between YouTube and Netflix, development pet peeves, comedy disruptors, corporate mergers, the mental-health challenges facing today’s stand-ups and more.
