Published

on

EXCLUSIVE: Kate Beckinsale (Underworld), Dermot Mulroney (Chicago Fire), Robert Knepper (Prison Break) and rapper Sticky Fingaz are underway on action-thriller Drifter, which is filming on location throughout Cleveland and Northeast Ohio.

Directed by Randall Emmett, the film also features Bill Sage, Beau Bommarito, Ema Horvath, Maia Kai, and entrepreneur and media personality John Cerasani.

Set in a quiet Midwestern town, Drifter “follows Wendy Ford, an interim police chief determined to prove she’s worthy of her late father’s badge. After arresting a mysterious drifter with a hidden past, Wendy finds herself trapped inside her isolated police station when impostors posing as FBI agents and a heavily armed mercenary team launch a deadly assault to free one of her prisoners. Forced into an uneasy alliance with the enigmatic stranger, Wendy must uncover the truth behind the attack before her town, and everyone inside the station, is wiped out.”

Drifter is produced and fully financed by Convergence Entertainment, the independent production and finance company founded by Randall Emmett and Joel Cohen, who also serve as producers on the film, in association with Dream Team Films.

“We’re thrilled to begin production on Drifter and to be filming in Cleveland,” said director Emmett. “Working with Kate Beckinsale has been everything we hoped it would be. We’ve wanted to collaborate for a long time, and she has exceeded every expectation. Alongside Dermot, Robert, and the rest of this incredible cast, we’re creating something we’re truly proud of, and we can’t wait to share it with audiences.”

Emmett’s latest action thriller, The Gentleman Thief, starring John Travolta, was released on July 28, 2026, by Vertical.

The Hollywood vet, a producer on Oscar nominee The Irishman, Martin Scorsese’s Silence and Mark Wahlberg starrer Lone Survivor, was the subject in 2022 and 2023 of multiple allegations of industry wrongdoing, which he denied. Since then he has made multiple movies including Alarum with Sylvester Stallone and Scott Eastwood, and John Travolta starrer High Rollers.

Team Trump Trolls Taylor Swift With Song Use Before Copyright Claim

Published

on

The White House Tik Tok account seemed to have drawn a short-lived retreat in its trolling of superstar Taylor Swift (who, if you need reminding, Donald Trump “hates”).

A TikTok video posted to the White House account earlier this week depicted the president and First Lady Melania Trump from behind as they watched a fireworks display in a night sky. The text over the photo read, “Mood because it’s August and Donald Trump is your president.”

The video was accompanied by the Swift song “august,” and at the bottom of image was a note from “Team Trump” saying, “I’m sure @Taylor Swift is going to be super excited we used her song!”

The trolling was short lived though. By last night, both the song (from Swift’s Folklore album) and the teasing note were removed from the account, replaced with a message in the U.S. reading, “The copyright owner hasn’t made this sound available in your country.”

The song removal was greeted with praise from Swift fans in the Tik Tok comments. “TAYLOR REMOVING THE AUDIO. QUEEEEN” and TAYLOR QUEEN SWIFT” were a couple examples. Another was: “She removed it, clocked you guys.”

Trump’s social media team couldn’t bow out with dignity, though, instead posting another Tik Tok video yesterday using Swift’s song “Red,” with the message, “Did you know Taylor Swift wrote a whole album about the color of the Republican Party.”

The latest bit of online goading follows a period of relative peace between the camps, with Trump – having been angered by Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris – said last year upon learning of Swift’s upcoming wedding to Travis Kelce, told reporters, “Well, I wish them a lot of luck. He’s a great player, and I think he’s a great guy, and I think that she’s a terrific person, so I wished them a lot of luck.”

Bill Maher Makes Weight Joke About Ariana Grande, Audience Groans

Published

on

Too soon, too tasteless or just too cruel, take your pick, but Bill Maher‘s two Ariana Grande weight jokes during his opening monologue on Friday’s Real Time With Bill Maher were met with mixed audience reactions.

Maher sidled up to the subject by recapping some of the bad news of the week, then saying, “I hope the aliens are here, I do. I hope they’re here and watching us and they’re going to save us.”

So far, so good.

Then:

“And, by the way, the administration this week, just a few days ago, maybe yesterday, unleashed a new trove of UFO files. Interesting things in there. Triangular craft, weird lights over an army base, a stick-like figure with large eyes – oh, that was just an Ariana Grande video.”

The Real Time audience took that one in stride, giving it a good laugh and applause, but then Maher pushed his luck.

Doing his usual butter-wouldn’t-melt bit, the host continued, “Please, we kid. We kid. Maybe that joke will make her eat something.”

That last jab – misguided from a treatment standpoint if nothing else – was a step too far for the audience, who responded with groans and awwws. “I’m saying, maybe it will help,” Maher continued before quickly segueing to another food topic: “Democrats,” he said, “have found a candidate who hates Thanksgiving.”

Grande recently announced that she was dropping plans to appear in a West End revival of the musical Sunday in the Park with George alongside Jonathan Bailey. Despite widespread concern and commentary over her appearance in the new music video “Petal,” the singer has not specified a reason for her temporary career break beyond noting that “boundaries, they need to be set. Human beings can need a break sometimes.”

CNN Anchor Sara Sidner Reveals Harrowing False Stage 4 Cancer Scare

Published

on

CNN‘s Sara Sidner, who first revealed a stage 3 breast cancer diagnoses two years ago and has occasionally provided updates with her audience since, is now sharing a harrowing experience that had the anchor struggling through “15 days of torture” under the mistaken notion that her cancer had advanced to an incurable stage 4.

Directly addressing viewers during her CNN News Central segment Friday, a somber Sidner began, “I want to share this update with you, about me. During these past few weeks i thought that cancer had spread all over my body.” She then went on to describe how a recent PET scan “lit up like a Christmas tree.”

“It indicated I was likely metastatic,” she continued. “Stage 4 cancer, incurable. It appeared to have spread to my hip, my spine, my liver, my lungs. I was inconsolable at the time. I immediately, as one does, looked up how long do I have to live. The number came back: Less than five years. That is the median overall survival time for stage 4 breast cancer.”

Sidner was, understandably, gobsmacked. “It knocked the breath out of me, as you might imagine,” she said. “Then I cried. My husband cried with me. My mother was stunned and scared, but surprisingly hopeful, bless her.”

The PET scan was followed by a biopsy in which doctors, Sidner said, “stick needles in a few areas to try to get a sample of your body to test it. Fifteen days of torture later, waiting for results, they came back.”

She received the good news – the biopsy results were negative – via email while she was in the CNN studio.

“Like a moth to a flame,” she said, “I had to open it. ‘Negative,’ it said. I uncharacteristically grabbed [co-anchor] John Berman’s hand in the cubby hole where we work side by side. ‘Negative,’ I croaked. A lump of tears was in my throat.”

Sidner said that her doctor explained that “biopsy beats scan” in diagnosing cancer. “I had a deep, guttural sigh of relief,” she said, adding that a molecular cancer blood test confirmed the negative result.

Sidner also shared the advice given to her by co-anchor Berman after she told him the good news. Saying she shouldn’t “do what you always do, which is to look for the next worst thing that’s gonna happen down the road,” Berman told Sidner: “Just celebrate the win.”
