Why Did ‘The End of Oak Street’ Use AI Dogs Podcast to Promote It?
Data from Inception Point AI suggests there are over 175,000 podcast episodes available on Spotify or Apple that are generated by artificial intelligence, and AI companies are churning out thousands of new episodes a day as part of a multi-billion industry. Spotify has even introduced features that essentially let you prompt your own podcast you want to listen to, because as if there weren’t enough podcasters in the world, you might want to create hosts that are just for you.
It’s the sheer numbers here that probably led someone in the marketing department at Warner Bros. to come up with the partnership with “Dog Pack,” a “podcast” hosted by two AI-generated dogs, as a means to promote its upcoming movie “The End of Oak Street.”
The two digital dog hosts, Goldie and Frenchie, welcomed onto their “show” Starbuck, who is the dog featured in “The End of Oak Street,” to ask about who was the best trained of his human co-stars, Ewan McGregor or Anne Hathaway, and what it was like being chased by dinosaurs on a tennis ball. The clip shows some behind the scenes footage of one of the real dog actors playing around on set, though Starbuck in the film is at times crafted from visual effects.
Look, this promo is pretty benign. This isn’t even a real “podcast” in which these AI dogs prattle on for an hour about the movie. It’s a 90-second ad, and frankly there are more important things to get angry about online than this. We can’t all be interviewing real life dogs all the time, as much as we love to.
But there was genuine annoyance and backlash to this clip when it dropped this weekend, calling it out as the type of thing that will actively turning people off seeing “The End of Oak Street,” like this guy who got some engagement out of his outrage. Others are wondering whether this also entails that there’s other AI-generated material in the movie (there’s not) or why someone would promote their movie this way when the biggest recent blockbusters like “Project Hail Mary” and “The Odyssey” have all sold themselves on their practical effects.
It also feels like a weird about-face for the movie’s own marketing. “The End of Oak Street” was originally sold with a bit of mystery and cloak and dagger, concealing what happens to this family after it seems as though their suburban home, along with their entire street, has been transported to some other dimension. Now the marketing very explicitly features dinosaurs chasing the family, to the point that Starbuck is talking about it and trying to appeal to moms on Facebook who might be among the nearly million followers to this AI feed.
It’s hard too to imagine director David Robert Mitchell — the guy who directed “It Follows” — seeing this ad campaign and saying yeah, I dig it. But we could be wrong. And maybe Warner Bros. is smart to make this film a bit more 4-quadrant. The film is projected for an opening between $25-35 million, a solid start for an original property opening in mid-August.
Warner Bros. did not respond to a request for comment on the marketing campaign.

J.J. Abrams on ‘The End of Oak Street,’ Daughter Gracie’s Acting Debut
While the internet has been filled with fan theories around the new sci-fi adventure The End of Oak Street, producer J.J. Abrams is quick to cut some of them down.
The film, directed by David Robert Mitchell, follows a family (led by Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor) whose suburban street is suddenly uprooted and lands among the dinosaurs in prehistoric times. In the lead-up to its release, some online have speculated that the movie is secretly connected to Abrams’ Cloverfield franchise. However, the filmmaker told The Hollywood Reporter at the L.A. premiere that this was not the case.
“The only connection to our Cloverfield movies is that Ewan’s partner is Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who was the star of 10 Cloverfield Lane, who we were very lucky to get to work with and who I adore,” Abrams said. “So there was that, but other than that, people are just making connections that they happen to see.”
The producer also explained the decision to take on a dinosaur genre that has long been dominated by the Jurassic Park franchise, saying, “This was a movie set in suburban America — our neighborhoods, our backyards, our living rooms — so to have dinosaurs in that world, in our world, there was a juxtaposition that was so immediately exciting. It wasn’t just cool dinosaurs; it was dinosaurs interacting with things and people and our front lawn, and suddenly it was a very different experience even reading it.”
Aside from his day job, Abrams is also dad to pop star Gracie Abrams, who will soon be making her acting debut in an A24 movie from Babygirl director Halina Reijn. Of his daughter crossing over to join his side of the industry, the filmmaker said, “I know how hard she’s working to do all she’s doing so I’m thrilled for her. As a parent, all you can do is hope that the work that your kids do fulfills them, so as long as that’s what’s happening, and I know how hard she’s working, I’m thrilled for her.”
The End of Oak Street hits theaters on Friday.

Telemundo’s ‘Operación Triunfo’ Carries On With Final Live Show Following Devastating 7.4 Magnitude Quake In Colombia
Telemundo‘s Operación Triunfo Season 1 finale was marred by sadness after the 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck Colombia on Monday, August 10.
The singing competition was to be full of joy as one singer was crowned the winner of the talent show following weeks of arduous work.
Although the show is produced for the United States Latino audience, Telemundo produces the talent competition in Colombia.
At the top of the finale, host Natalia Téllez acknowledged the recent events that have devastated the country.
“Before starting our grand finale full of music and emotions, we want to take a couple of moments to send a big hug to all the Colombians who have been affected by the earthquake that took place this morning,” she said. “Colombia is part of the Operación Triunfo Estados Unidos family, because we produce the program here in RCN’s studios and there’s a big human team that works day by day to make this dream possible.”
She continued, “Tonight, our hearts are with all of you; it’s with all the families that are worried or anguished and all those that have lost their loved ones.”
Judges David Bisbal, Ximena Sariñana and Ana Bárbara were visibly affected by the events that took place in Colombia that have taken the lives of more than 100 people, at the time of this post. According to CNN, the 7.4-magnitude quake had its epicenter in San José del Palmar, about 149 miles west of Bogotá, the nation’s capital.
Bogotá is where RCN’s studios are and where Operación Triunfo films. Although the tremor was felt in the country’s capital, no major structural damage has been reported, according to the mayor Carlos F. Galán.
While Operación Triunfo ends tonight, Telemundo is also filming the new season of Top Chef VIP, a reality competition set to air on Tuesday, August 11, in the same time slot.

Trump Torched as ‘Dozing Don’ Over Oval Office Nap During Announcement
Donald Trump found himself the butt of several jokes Monday after the president appeared to fall asleep during an update regarding childhood vaccines.
Specifically, after Trump signed an executive order Monday that reduced the number of vaccines recommended for children, as well as called for the MMR shot to be split into three separate vaccines, the president struggled to keep his eyes open as National Institutes of Health Director Jay Bhattacharya spoke next to him.
It didn’t take long for the president’s apparent nap to be clipped and circulated on X, with one snippet of the snooze in-question garnering 2 million views Monday afternoon.
“Holy s–t Trump is OUT,” the X user who uploaded the clip, Aaron Rupar, wrote. Plenty of users co-signed this sentiment, with Rupar’s post nabbing 25,000 “likes.”
“‘Sleepy Joe’ [Biden] never once fell asleep like this,” another critic on X commented. “Trump does it literally all the time. Incredible.”
A third responded with, “We really need to start calling him ‘Dozing Don.’” Additionally, the X user shared a collage of all the different times the president appeared to fall asleep during official functions.
Representatives for the White House did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
Trump’s cognitive health has repeatedly been questioned since his inauguration in 2025, as he remains the oldest person to assume and hold the office of U.S. president.
For instance, back in June, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker once again voiced his concerns to the press about Trump’s health, alleging the president was “suffering from dementia.”
“Look at any of the videos from 2015 or 2016 and look at how he responded to questions and look at how he was at press conferences and then you fast forward and look at him now,” he told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins. “I really think that there’s something genuinely wrong with him.”
Nonetheless, Trump has repeatedly denied allegations of mental deterioration, most recently claiming on Truth Social that he’s “aced” all of his cognitive tests. Trump’s June physical also defended him to be in “in excellent health, demonstrating strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological and overall physical function.”
