The Avengers are headed to Disneyland.

At D23, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced the all-star cast that is involved with Avengers: Infinity Defense, a new attraction coming to Disney California Adventure in 2028. Robert Downey, Jr, Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Chris Hemsworth and Iman Vellani will star in the new attraction, reprising their roles from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. (And before you ask, Downey Jr. will be playing Tony Stark and not his villainous Doctor Doom.)

According to new details shared on stage, you will serve as a recruit in Avengers Campus. Who will recruit you? None other than Ms. Marvel, played once again by Vellani, who appeared as the character in the Disney+ series “Ms. Marvel” and the theatrical feature “The Marvels.”

They shared footage of the actors capturing footage for the attraction during the production of “Avengers: Doomsday,” out this Christmas. The team is being assembled to stop a Thanos from the multiverse – King Thanos. That doesn’t sound good. Especially considering the damage that Thanos inflicted on the mainline MCU.

What’s more, Downey Jr. and Mackie will appear in the other new attraction coming to Avengers: Infinity Defense, alongside Brie Larson, who will be reprising her role as Captain Marvel. Stark Flight Lab will open up aside Avengers: Infinity Defense in 2028.

Carousel of Progress, an audio-animatronic stage show overseen by Walt Disney and originally created for the 1964-65 World’s Fair in Queens, holds the record as the longest-running stage show in the history of American theater. And the attraction, which went from Disneyland following the closure of the World’s Fair and has been a part of Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom since 1975, recently shut down for a reimagining.

Now we know who will be starring in this new version of Carousel of Progress when it reopens in late spring 2027 – Bryan Cranston will star as the father in the story, which charts American progress (this new version will begin in the 1960’s and continue to today), with Jamie Lee Curtis voicing his wife.

Not much is known about this version of Carousel of Progress, although there were props on display at the absolutely stunning Walt Disney Imagineering pavilion on the D23 show floor. During the presentation where Cranston and Curtis were announced, they showed off some concept art from the new version of the show – a scene set in the 1980’s that appeared to be coinciding with the Halloween season.

Contrary to the popular narrative, the Carousel of Progress has been updated five times – 1967, 1975, 1981, 1985 and 1993. The theme song, “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow,” has perhaps become more beloved and ingrained in Disney popular culture than the show itself, which was admittedly getting a little long in the tooth when the update was announced.

This new version of the attraction will also feature a new pre-show starring an animatronic Walt Disney. A similar figure just debuted at Disneyland in the theater that also houses Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln (an expansion of another World’s Fair show).

The new Carousel of Progress will debut at Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in late spring 2027.

One of the greatest original series to ever air on Disney+, Leslie Iwerks’ “The Imagineering Story” will return for season 2 in 2028.

Iwerks appeared on stage at D23 to announce the project, which she stresses will focus on projects currently in development (or recently opened) at the company’s global portfolio of theme parks. We can likely expect the same level of rigorous research and hyper-specific detail that made the original “Imagineering Story” episodes such essential, entertaining pieces of theme park history.

Iwerks’ latest Disney+ documentary, “Disney Worldbuilders,” which chronicles the Disney creatives and how they translate the stories into the parks, premieres at D23 tomorrow morning. It will arrive on Disney+ on August 20.

Earlier this year, Iwerks also unleashed “Disneyland Handcrafted,” an ingenious documentary that chronicled the year or so that it took to build and open Disneyland back in 1955. Using strictly archival photography, along with more modern interviews, the documentary was surprisingly unfettered, as it followed a ragtag group as they attempted to do the impossible.

But “The Imagineering Story” really is Iwerks’ magnum opus, taking you behind-the-scenes of the division of the company that was started by Walt Disney himself as a research-and-development arm that was the place where he could play and imagine without much corporate oversight. Imagineering is not only responsible for the rides, show, attractions and cruise ships that guests around the world enjoy, but they have filed an incalculable amount of patents and technological innovations.

“The Imagineering Story” season 2 debuts on Disney+ in early 2028.
