Artist apologizes for “discomfort,” “concern” caused by social media posts

Manga artist Ayano Yamane announced on Wednesday that she has withdrawn from the manga adaptation of Rou Bao Bu Chi Rou’s The Husky and His White Cat Shizun: Erha He Ta De Bai Mao Shizun novel series. The artist prefaced the announcement by apologizing for previous posts on social media which caused “discomfort and concern.”  Libre Publishing had announced minutes earlier that the manga adaptation project has been suspended.

Libre Publishing had announced the manga adaptation on Monday, and the adaptation had been set to debut in the December issue of BiblosBe-Boy Gold boys love magazine on October 28 in print (and on November 19 digitally) after a preview.

The announcement was met with backlash from fans on social media, who accused the artist of anti-Chinese and anti-Korean sentiments in previous social media posts.

Yamane ended the Crimson Spell manga in January 2020. She launched the manga in Chara Selection in 2004, and Tokuma Shoten published the manga’s final compiled book volume in July 2021. Viz Media‘s SuBLime boys-love imprint publishes the manga in English and shipped the seventh volume in April 2025. Media Blasters Kitty Media label had previously released the first two volumes in the series in English in 2007-2008.

Digital Manga Inc. released Yamane’s Finder manga in North America, and SuBLime picked up the license in 2016. DMI also released Yamane’s A Foreign Love Affair manga in North America. A Foreign Love Affair inspired a two-episode video anime series in 2007, and Finder inspired an “Animix” adaptation in 2010.
