One Piece, SpongeBob SquarePants Fuse in New McDonald’s Happy Meal Commercial – Interest

SpongeBob SquarePants gears up for upcoming Happy Meal set on September 15



Following the initial tease of a Happy Meal collaboation between One Piece and SpongeBob SquarePants last August, McDonald’s began streaming on Monday a new commercial featuring several SpongeBob SquarePants characters dressed as One Piece‘s Straw Hat Pirates and antagonists. The video also announces that the collaboration will begin on September 15.

McDonald’s stated on X/Twitter: “[We’ve] truly entered the great Happy Meal era. SpongeBob x One Piece coming 9.15.”

The toys include Spongebob as Luffy, Spongebob as Gear 5 Luffy, Patrick as Zoro, Sandy as Nami, Plankton as Usopp, Squidward as Sanji, Gary as Chopper, Pearl as Robin, Larry as Franky, Smitty as Brook, Mr. Krabs as Jinbe, Mermaid Man as Garp, Barnacle Boy as Koby, Mrs. Puff as Big Mom, and Flying Dutchman as Blackbeard.

McDonald’s originally teased the collaboration on August 13 with an image featuring Spongebob dressed up as One Piece‘s protagonist Luffy. The collaboration will take place in several regions globally, including, but not limited to, the United States, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Brazil, China, Korea, Indonesia, Germany, France, and more.

The One Piece anime’s Elbaph arc debuted in Japan on April 5. Crunchyroll is streaming the arc.

Director, Animator Yūji Yanase Dies – News

Director and animator Yūji Yanase died on August 22.

The official website for The Insipid Prince’s Furtive Grab for The Throne anime made the announcement on Wednesday. Yanase directed the anime, which premiered on July 6.

Yanase has been working in the anime industry since at least 1988, working as in-between animator for such works as Akira, Kaze o Nuke!, and Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Dorabian Nights. He was a key animator for such works as Macross 7, The Legend of Zorro, Tenchi Universe, and Tetsujin 28-go FX. He was animation director on episodes of such works as Saber Marionette J, Fancy Lala, Excel Saga, Hellsing, Chobits, Mezzo, Aria the Animation, and Symphogear, among numerous others.

Yanase made his directorial debut with the 2014 television anime Himegoto, and has since directed such anime as Onsen Yōsei Hakone-chan, In Another World With My Smartphone, If It’s for My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord, By the Grace of the Gods, In the Land of Leadale, My Unique Skill Makes Me OP even at Level 1, I’ll Become a Villainess Who Goes Down in History, Apocalypse Bringer Mynoghra, and The World’s Strongest Rearguard – Labyrinth Country’s Novice Seeker, as well as the aforementioned The Insipid Prince’s Furtive Grab for The Throne. He continued working as a key animator, animation director, and episode director in various other productions alongside his directorial duties.

Go Pokémon Snap with the Upcoming Pokémon x Polaroid Cameras – Interest

The Pokémon Company announced on August 18 that it has partnered with the instant film and camera company Polaroid for a new line of Pokémon Polaroid cameras. Three different cameras celebrate Pokémon‘s 30th anniversary: the Polaroid Go Instant Camera Generation 3 in Pikachu and Sylveon Editions, and the Poké Ball-colored Polaroid Now Instant Camera Generation 3—Pokémon Edition.

Polaroid will also release Pokémon x Polaroid film. The Pikachu Edition camera will come with a set of film with frames featuring the Pikachu evolution line in a “variety of playful poses.” The Sylveon Edition camera will come with a set of film with frames with the Eevee evolution line. The Pokémon Edition camera will come with film featuring a “variety of Pokémon pals”: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Gengar, Umbreon, and Mimikyu, among others.

Crocs Announces New Pokémon Clog Designs

Meanwhile, American footwear company Crocs is expanding its line of Pokémon Classic Clog footwear with the Pokémon Pikachu and Gengar Classic Clog, and the Pokémon Jigglypuff Classic Platform Clog. The Pokémon Pikachu Classic Clog is set to come in adult and children’s sizes.

Yuuji Yanase, Director of ‘Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni.’, Dies at 59

Yuuji Yanase, the director behind Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni. (In Another World With My Smartphone), died on August 22 due to myocardial infarction. He was 59. A funeral service was held by his close relatives.

Animation studio Maho Film announced the news on Wednesday, where Yanase had been a full-time employee since 2023. The production committee of the ongoing anime series, Saikyou Degarashi Ouji no Anyaku Teii Arasoi (The Insipid Prince’s Furtive Grab for The Throne), also released a statement regarding his sudden death.

“We are still unable to accept this sudden news and are filled with deep sadness. Director Yanase dedicated tremendous effort to the production of this anime. We offer our most sincere gratitude and heartfelt condolences,” the committee shared.

Yanase made his directorial debut in 2017 with Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni.. He was a prominent figure at Maho Film, directing several of the studio’s titles, including Uchi no Ko no Tame naraba, Ore wa Moshikashitara Maou mo Taoseru kamo Shirenai. (If It’s for My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord), Kami-tachi ni Hirowareta Otoko (By the Grace of the Gods), Leadale no Daichi nite (In the Land of Leadale), and Level 1 dakedo Unique Skill de Saikyou desu (My Unique Skill Makes Me OP Even at Level 1). He most recently directed Sekai Saikyou no Kouei: Meikyuukoku no Shinjin Tansakusha (The World’s Strongest Rearguard) in Summer 2026.
