The ‘here we go’ is on hold, the ‘bombas’ are done and dusted and the window panes are reverberating after being forcefully closed on Tuesday night.

Now comes the moment for new arrivals to make their mark on the pitch rather than the balance sheet.

Throughout the Premier League era there have been hordes of transfer hits and misses, but today we’re looking at those signings who proved game-changing for their club and the competition, the ones who really moved the needle.

You could make an argument for plenty of players who were left off this list. Thierry Henry is probably the one quibbled over the most, Arsene Wenger turning him from misfiring winger to one of the generation’s greatest forwards.

But Arsenal had been champions 12 months before he arrived, and it took until Henry’s third season for the Gunners to reclaim that crown.

You could point to Cristiano Ronaldo, who won a Ballon d’Or at Manchester United, or Wayne Rooney, who became the club’s record goalscorer.

But a teenage Ronaldo took time to bed in, while Rooney, despite a debut hat-trick in Europe, had to wait until his third season for a Premier League winners’ medal.

Then there’s a plethora of Manchester City signings. Erling Haaland announced himself with 36 goals in 35 top-flight games but arrived in the middle of City’s four-year title-winning streak. Yaya Toure, Kevin de Bruyne and Rodri all had big impacts.

However, the list can only be 10 names long. So here it is…

10. Petr Cech – Rennes to Chelsea, £7m, July 2004

Austrian goalkeeper Jurgen Macho was one of first faces through the door as the Roman Abramovich era began at Chelsea, arriving on a free transfer from Sunderland, only to tear his cruciate ligament and never play for the club.

A keeper signed the following summer would prove far more influential at Stamford Bridge.

While prising Claude Makelele from Real Madrid’s Galacticos was a huge statement – likewise Hernan Crespo from Inter Milan – Petr Cech was the wall on which back-to-back titles were built.

Cech conceded only 15 goals in his debut league campaign, going on a run of 1,025 minutes without being beaten and ending the season with a record 24 clean sheets.

His Chelsea career spanned 11 seasons and included four Premier League titles and a Champions League. The Blues made back the £7m they paid – and then some.

American golf brand Good Good has sacked two senior executives following backlash over an advert which showed a woman being pushed to the ground after reaching for a club.

The company, whose YouTube channel has 2.1m subscribers, said it had parted ways with chief executive Matt Kendrick and president Joe Flannery following the release of the advert created for golf club manufacturer Callaway.

Good Good vice-president of brand and marketing Jeffrey Lefkovits was sacked earlier this week.

Head of finance and operations at Good Good, Alex Puchala, said the dismissals on Wednesday were a “difficult day for the entire Good Good family”.

Nahid Giga, a board member and investor in Good Good, has been installed as interim CEO.

The video drew widespread criticism and was accused of making light of violence against women.

Last month Good Good and Callaway removed the advert and issued apologies.

Callaway ended its partnership with Good Good and said it was donating $1m (£736,000) to organisations working to prevent violence against women and support victims.

Good Good, whom Callaway has worked with since 2023, has stepped away from its sponsorship of a PGA Tour event in Austin, Texas, in November.

Good Good products have also been pulled from the shelves of several retailers.

The advert showed Good Good co-founder Garrett Clark rushing over to Alexis Miestowski – a professional golfer and regular content creator for Good Good – and pushing her to the ground before shouting: “Do not touch my new driver.”

The brand, which has become one of the largest content creators in golf, launched its YouTube channel 2020. Regular clips include men and women competing in various golf challenges.

Good Good also creates made-for-TV shows as well as adverts for golf clothing and other merchandise.

Puchala said Good Good was “concouraged by the continued support” of its fans and said it is “focused on moving forward and building the next chapter of the company”.

2.40 ParisLongchamp – Listed winners Drazinda and Armor Supreme lock horns

Listed winners Drazinda and Armor Supreme lock horns in the Group three Prix d’Arenberg.

The Francis-Henri Graffard-trained Drazinda has improved with each run this season after a nice debut win. After chasing down Victorious and Senorita Bonita in the Queen Mary when drawn on the wrong side, she placed second in a Listed race before going one better last month.

A quality-looking edition of the Group 1 Prix Morny was a step too far, but this Sioux Nation filly still ran creditably and can continue her progression down in grade.

She just about sets the standard, although Diego Dias’ progressive filly Armor Supreme beat the former in the Queen Mary when drawn on the quicker side. She then franked the form when scoring at Listed level impressively over at the Curragh last time out. She should be primed for a big run and these two should be closely matched.

Grayrobin won two on the bounce since moving to Kate McGivern before finishing just over a length behind the aforementioned Armor Supreme. She should go close again, albeit the winner was well on top at the line that day.

Archie Watson’s Vollering and Valentina Bella round off the field of five, but both will need to improve a fair bit to feature at the front end.

4.55 Lingfield – Highly tried Kamaal drops in class against Mouj Albuhoor

On home soil, the highly-tried Kamaal drops in class against Arqana Series fifth Mouj Albuhoor in the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 / EBF Novice Stakes.

Jack Jones’ son of Minzaal sets a solid standard with an eye-catching 10th in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot. He then took a step backwards when eighth in the Rose Bowl but the ground may have been a touch too quick that day for a sharp six furlongs at Newbury. He shaped as if seven furlongs could suit when staying on at the Royal meeting and as a half-brother to Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf third North Coast, who ran his best at two over a mile, this lad can get back on track down in grade and up in trip.

The opposition is not without potential, with the Richard Hughes-trained Mouj Albuhoor clearly well thought of having gone off a short-priced favourite in the valuable Arqana Series Stakes at Deauville last month. He raced too freely to win that day but ran creditably in fifth and could be quite a nice type going forward.

The fourth-placed Munch came out and ran well in another novice, with seventh-placed Catch My Eye very much franking the form when improving markedly to beat promising juveniles Charged and Katon.

Ralph Beckett fields 125,000gns two-year-old Saturn Star, who contains more of a middle-distance-based pedigree. Any market clues will be informative for this debutant.

6.10 Southwell – Godolphin’s Castlemont returns following striking debut success

A full-brother to Bay Bridge, Charlie Appleby’s gelding put up a taking display when winning a fair novice at Windsor in July. He overcame inexperience when looking green a few furlongs out, but did his best work late to win with plenty in hand.

The step up in trip should only be an advantage judging by both pedigree and his debut performance, and he should prove tough to beat.

Walking On Stars is going the right way for Sir Mark Prescott and gets 12lbs from Billy Loughnane’s aforementioned mount, whilst Maestro Del Mar and Liam Mera Kai set a fair standard with creditable runs this season. However, they will have to improve quite markedly to reach the level of Castlemont as long as the Godolphin contender runs to form.

Best of the rest…

At Lingfield, Hamdania bids to make it two from two Download The At The Races App Fillies’ Restricted Novice Stakes but may need the run returning from a break. Andrew Balding’s Mystic Music looks to be the best of the opposition, having chased home Moonswept at 50/1 the last day. Later on the card, Wyle Cop aims for a course and distance hat-trick in the Free Tips On attheraces.com Handicap (4.20pm).

At Newcastle, Norfolk Stakes third Mussab looks to bounce back in the 3.59pm Admiral Race To Riches Novice Stakes having disappointed in the Gimcrack the last day. A step into calmer waters down in class should suit. Southwell’s 5.05pm bettingsites.co.uk Novice Stakes sees the Amo-owned Black Orchid attempt to turn three seconds into a first success.

Back in France…

Impressive the last day at Dieppe, Daryoura seeks to back up that debut win against Juddmonte’s Maintain and Prix de Diane fifth Evita in the Prix de Liancourt at ParisLongchamp. In the following Prix Joubert, Charlie Appleby’s Ribbon Of Sea steps up in class, with stablemate Tribal Queen also in situ.

Godspeed, Braida and Fortuna Diamond clash in the Prix de la Cochere (4.25pm), with representatives from the Jack Channon and James Fanshawe yards also present.
