Playhouse Post Opens Doors On Soho Facility After Halo Assets Deal

Published

on

EXCLUSIVE: Soho’s post-production village has had its fair share of closure over recent years, but here’s news of something opening.

Playhouse Post has officially opened doors to its new 12,000 sq ft facility on Noel Street in London’s West End, with newly refurbished cutting rooms overlooking Soho and end-to-end post-production services provided.

Kim Bartley’s Lemonade, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, was the first feature to complete post-production at Playhouse Post and was also financed by Playhouse Studios.

The news comes not long after we revealed Playhouse had bought the assets of Halo Post, which went into administration, and took over the Noel Street facility. What followed was Halo’s assets merging with those of another British post house that went into administration, LipSync, and the launch of Playhouse Post.

Noel Street has now been refurbed with a studio offering colour grading, VFX, picture finishing, sound, VFX, colour and delivery in Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision-equipped facilities. Cutting rooms will provide productions with editorial bases along with remote offline solutions and wider post-production finishin services.

There is also a 4K theatrical grading theater and two Dolby Vision 4K HDR grading suites, two purpose-built 4K HDR Flame suites provide dedicated finishing and client review space, whilst another three finishing rooms for grade, VFX and online. On the sound front, three refurbished Pro Tools studios will offer a range of services, including voiceover facilities for film, drama and doc projects.

“Playhouse Post’s revamped Noel Street facility gives productions the flexibility to move through multiple stages of post under one roof, supported by the infrastructure and creative environment needed for increasingly complex workflows,” said Mark Foligno, CEO of Playhouse Post. “We’re excited to be opening our high-spec London facility to continue supporting ambitious projects of every scale, from development through to final delivery.”

For Playhouse, the launch comes as the Dublin-based company continues to seek expansion in the UK and Ireland, and follows the launch of a Belfast office, which has Martin Brennan and Janine Cobain leading it as Director of Playhouse Northern Ireland and Head of Production, respectively.

Besides buying up post assets, Playhouse has begun investing in its own suite of film and TV projects.

Anonymous Content Partners Tony Lipp & Dara Gordon Leaving Company

Published

on

EXCLUSIVE: Tony Lipp and Dara Gordon, talent managers and partners at Anonymous Content, will be leaving at the end of the year when their contracts are up after the company opted not to renew them. Darren Walker, who took the reins of Anonymous Content in January as President and CEO, announced Lipp and Gordon’s pending departures in an internal memo, a copy of which was obtained by Deadline.

“Saying goodbye to colleagues who have been such a longstanding part of the company is never easy, and on behalf of myself and the Board, I would like to thank them both for their many contributions,” Walker wrote.

Lipp and Gordon are both Anonymous Content veterans. Los Angeles-based Lipp joined the company as partner in 2011 from CAA. New York-based Gordon came to Anonymous Content in 2015 from Authentic Talent and Literary Management and was promoted to partner in November 2021.

Most recently, Lipp produced the Emmy-nominated Netflix film Remarkably Bright Creatures starring clients Sally Field, who won an Emmy for her performance, and Lewis Pullman, the latter also managed by Gordon.

Two other newly minted Emmy winners also are managed by Lipp, Widow’s Bay‘s Kate O’Flynn, and Lipp and Gordon, Widow’s Bay‘s Betty Gilpin.

Lipp’s roster of clients (some of them shared) also includes Patrick Wilson, Michelle Monaghan, Jonathan Bailey, Jack Quaid, Matt Bomer, Joshua Jackson and John Lithgow.

Tony has played an important role over the course of his tenure, stepping up during challenging periods and leading his team through both internal changes and industry headwinds,” Walker said. “A terrific manager and mentor, he is beloved by his clients – many of whom have been with him for decades.”

Gordon also manages/co-manages Lili Reinhart, Aaron Pierre, Leo Woodall, Adria Arjona, Winona Ryder, Billy Magnussen, Taissa Farmiga, and Melissa Benoist.

“Dara has been an integral part of our New York office and has built strong relationships with colleagues and clients alike,” Walker said. “As a partner, she brings impeccable taste, steering her clients with grace and sophistication.”

Management and production company Anonymous Content signaled shifting growth priorities with the recent minority stake investment by Laurene Powell Jobs’ Emerson Collective, committing to making at least eight films a year. The company’s recent/upcoming releases include Musk, Possible Love, In Waves, A Statement and TV series East of Eden, 12 12 12 and Neuromancer.

Here is Walker’s memo:

Dear Colleagues,

I wanted to share some news about Tony and Dara.

With great appreciation for their service and huge admiration for all of their accomplishments, they will be leaving Anonymous at the end of the year.

Saying goodbye to colleagues who have been such a longstanding part of the company is never easy, and on behalf of myself and the Board, I would like to thank them both for their many contributions.

Tony has played an important role over the course of his tenure, stepping up during challenging periods and leading his team through both internal changes and industry headwinds. A terrific manager and mentor, he is beloved by his clients – many of whom have been with him for decades.

Dara has been an integral part of our New York office and has built strong relationships with colleagues and clients alike. As a partner, she brings impeccable taste, steering her clients with grace and sophistication.

Please join me in wishing Tony and Dara the very best in their next chapter.

Sincerely,

Darren

YouTuber Gossip Goblin Releases Trailer For R-Rated AI Theatrical Film ‘Only Gods Give Gifts’

Published

on

Popular YouTuber Gossip Goblin, aka Zack London, has released the trailer for his forthcoming film Gods Don’t Give Gifts, a feature film made entirely with artificial intelligence.

The sci-fi film will open in limited theatrical release in the U.S. and UK on December 4. The filmmakers say the theatrical engagement will be a milestone for a fully AI feature, adding that it is the first AI film to receive an MPA rating (R) and also to be campaigned in the Best Animated Feature category at the Academy Awards.

The trailer will go to theaters on Friday, along with lobby posters, and billboard ads are due to begin in November.

Full of trippy visuals matching London’s other work, Gods Don’t Give Gifts is billed as taking place in the “science-fiction, horror-tinged world of the ‘Second Cycle of Humanity’ where transhumanism has accelerated to the point that humanity looks very different.”

The film, which was previewed last month at the Venice Film Festival market, is produced by Edward Saatchi. Fable, Saatchi’s AI company, counts Amazon among its backers.

The filmmakers hope to draw interest in a market that has taken notice of YouTube creators in a big way over the past year, with significant grosses pulled in by the likes of Obsession, Backrooms and Iron Lung.

Over the past five years, Saatchi said in a statement, “the question has been when will an AI film win an Oscar? Gods Don’t Give Gifts is the first that has a shot at a nomination and then it’s all to play for. We will be screening for voters and running a traditional campaign. It’s objectively a seminal, historic moment in animation – and we feel it could be this generation’s Toy Story – the fact that this generation’s Toy Story is a dark, satirical, brutal and bold statement on all 2026’s fears about AI and our species’ future is an appropriate commentary on the questions we are all confronting as a society.”

‘Drew Barrymore Show’ Claims Best Season Premiere Ever, ‘Adam’s Law’ No. 1

Published

on

The Drew Barrymore Show kicked off its seventh season with its highest viewership ever for a premiere episode, and new court show Adam’s Law, produced by Judge Judy Sheindlin and featuring her son, Judge Adam Levy, debuted as the top new syndicated strip. Both shows come from CBS Media Ventures.

The September 14 season debut of The Drew Barrymore Show saw its highest numbers ever in total viewers, up 21% vs last season’s premiere. Averaging 1.8 million total viewers, the show ranks No. 3 among syndicated talk shows in households, total viewers and women/adults 18-49 / 25-54.

Other CBS Media Ventures syndicated titles also fared well during premiere week. Entertainment Tonight remained the No. 1 entertainment news magazine, with Inside Edition the No. 1 daily news magazine and Hot Bench the No. 1 court show still in production. The Perfect Line, hosted by Deborah Norville, ranked as the No. 4 syndicated game show behind Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud.

The stats come amid a diminished first-run syndication field, with Kelly Clarkson ending her daytime talker The Kelly Clarkson Show after seven seasons at the end of August. Sherri Shepherd’s daytime talk show Sherri was canceled after four seasons in February. And in March, NBCUniversal announced it was exiting the first-run syndication business all-together, with Access Hollywood and its offshoot Access Live, The Steve Wilkos Show and Karamo all ending. The Drew Barrymore Show and The Jennifer Hudson Show are the last remaining daytime talkers produced under the traditional syndication model.
