Matsuki revealed on X/Twitter on Wednesday that they have been hospitalized and will need to recover and rest, so their Overlord [Shin] Sekai-hen (Overlord [New] World Arc) manga is going on hiatus.

Matsuki debuted the manga in Kadokawa‘s Comp Ace magazine in April 2024. Kadokawa published the manga’s fourth compiled book volume on March 26.

The manga’s story continues from the story of Hugin Miyama and Satoshi Ōshio‘s Overlord manga adaptation (in the middle of the 10th volume’s story), where Ainz won the battle on the Katze Plains and has founded a magical country.

Miyama and Ōshio launched the manga adaptation of Kugane Maruyama‘s Overlord light novel series in Comp Ace magazine in 2014. The manga’s first part ended in May 2023. Kadokawa published the manga’s 19th volume on December 2023. Yen Press is publishing the manga in English, and released the 19th volume in October 2024.

Maruyama began the original light novel series online in 2010, and Kadokawa‘s Enterbrain imprint began publishing the series in print with illustrations by so-bin in 2012. Kadokawa published the light novel series’ 16th volume in July 2022. Yen Press is also releasing the novel series in North America. The novels are slated to end in their 18th volume.

Overlord IV, the fourth television anime season, premiered in July 2022. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired in Japan. It is also streaming an English dub.

The anime’s new film project titled Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom (Gekijō-ban Overlord Sei Ōkoku-hen) opened in Japan in September 2024. Crunchyroll screened the film in North America in November 2024, and also screened the film in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.

Masashi Ishihama (From the New World, Garakowa -Restore the World-, Horimiya) is directing the anime. CloverWorks will animate the series. Fashionable and upbeat high schooler Aya falls head over heels for an employee at a local CD shop. He’s got an air of mystery about him, great style, and an impeccable music taste. Little does she know—this supposedly male employee is actually her female classmate Mitsuki! Mitsuki generally keeps to herself, but since her seat is right next to Aya’s, she can’t help but be extremely aware of the other’s crush. Revealing the truth is out of the question for Mitsuki—but perhaps getting closer to Aya wouldn’t be so bad…

Arai launched the series as a manga on Twitter (later known as X) in April 2022 before serializing on pixiv Comic in April 2023. Kadokawa Shoten publishes the series in print and shipped the fourth compiled book volume on February 19.

The series ranked #2 on the 23rd annual Da Vinci “Book of the Year” list and #2 for top manga for female readers on the 2024 edition of Takarajimasha‘s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! (This Manga Is Amazing!) guidebook.

A teaser video had announced the prequel when it debuted during the second round of special edition screenings for Gundam Seed FREEDOM in Japanese theaters in November 2024.

Director Mitsuo Fukuda, producer Hisakazu Naka, and Sōichirō Hoshi, voice of Kira Yamato, appeared at a stage greeting during the first screening announcing the prequel. They revealed that screenwriter Chiaki Morosawa and Shigeru Morita wrote the prequel’s scenario while planning for Gundam Seed Freedom itself. In addition, Fukuda stated that the script for Gundam Seed FREEDOM ZERO was completed 20 years ago.

Gundam Seed FREEDOM ZERO’s storyboards were nearly half finished, and the oldest storyboards actually predate those of Gundam Seed Freedom itself. The dialogue recording has also already been completed. Fukuda added that 20 years ago, Gundam Seed FREEDOM ZERO was originally planned as an original video anime (OVA), but the staff has not yet decided how it will be presented now.

Mobile Suit Gundam Seed FREEDOM opened in Japan in January 2024. The film debuted at #1 in the Japanese box office. It sold 634,182 tickets for 1,065,983,130 yen (about US$7.20 million) in its first three days, marking the Gundam franchise‘s highest three-day opening in box office earnings. The film is the highest-earning Gundam film in Japan ever.

Bandai Namco Filmworks and Fathom Events screened the film in the United States and Canada in May 2024. Netflix is streaming the film.

Special editions of the film screened in theaters in Japan in fall 2024. One version played with footage added to the end. Another special edition had different footage added (specifically, the above-mentioned teaser video).

Fukuda directed the film at Bandai Namco Filmworks. Fukuda also co-wrote the script along with his late wife Chiaki Morosawa and Liu Goto. Hisashi Hirai (Mobile Suit Gundam Seed) designed the characters.
