As The Exorcist makes its way back to theaters, a first look at Mike Flanagan‘s new chilling take on the horror classic has been unveiled.
On Friday, Blumhouse released the first trailer for The Exorcist: Martyrs, which premieres March 12, 2027, revealing Scarlett Johansson’s Detective Judy Miller and the demonic homicide case at the center.
In The Exorcist: Martyrs, Detective Julie Miller (Johansson) ends the killing spree of satanic Father Sunday (John Leguizamo), only for a new serial killer to drag her back into the darkness 13 years later when her name is written in the blood of a murdered altar boy on the walls of a church crypt.
Teaming up with former prison chaplain Father William (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and rookie Detective Gina Restrepo (Sasha Calle), Detective Miller discovers an ancient evil that has linked killers like H.H. Holmes, the Night Stalker and the Zodiac for generations.
Written and directed by Flanagan, and based on characters created by The Exorcist author William Peter Blatty, the cast also includes Diane Lane, Jacobi Jupe, Scoot McNairy, Gil Bellows and Laurence Fishburne.
Producers include David Robinson and Jason Blum, with executive producers Alexandra Magistro and Ryan Turek.

LaKeith Stanfield and Ben Mendelsohn are set to star in Molepeople, a horror feature that sees the teaming of two horror powerhouses, Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Paramount Primal.
The feature will be co-financed and co-produced by Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Paramount, with Paramount handling worldwide distribution. A release date of Aug. 27, 2027 has been set.
Rob Savage, who has Other Mommy opening this weekend, will direct the horror thriller, which has a script by Nathan Elston.
The logline concerns a man who descends into the abandoned tunnels beneath New York City, where he discovers a twisted society lurking beneath the streets.
Sources say production is due to begin at the end of November or in early December in the UK.
Producers include Jason Blum, Primal’s J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules, and James Harris. Executive producers include Ryan Turek, Tracy Rosenblum, Elston, and Savage.
The project was previously in development as an indie but moved to Paramount when Lifshitz and Margules created Primal, their genre label.
Stanfield recently appeared in Boots Riley’s well-regarded I Love Boosters and starred opposite Mark Wahlberg in Amazon’s Play Dirty. He is repped by CAA and Stark Management.
WME-repped Mendelsohn is coming of the Venice Film Festival premiere of Company, a thriller directed by Casey Affleck that also stars Scoot McNairy.
