Published

on

Paranormal Activity, Levi Holloway’s hit, critically acclaimed stage chiller inspired by the famous Paramount film franchise, has been extended for eight additional weeks at Broadway‘s August Wilson Theatre. The play, directed by Felix Barrett will now play through February 28, 2027.

Since beginning previews on August 14 and opening August 25, Paranormal Activity, starring Cher Álvarez and Travis A. Knight as the spooked couple, has been playing to full or nearly full houses. Last week, the show was at 98% of capacity and grossed $910,556

The crowd-pleaser arrived on Broadway directly from a limited pre-Broadway engagement in Boston at the Emerson Colonial Theatre in July, and prior to Boston had played sold-out engagements at Chicago Shakespeare Theater in Chicago, Center Theatre Group at The Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington D.C., and American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco.

A production in Toronto at the CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre began on June 9 and ran through July 5. The production premiered at the Leeds Playhouse in the UK before transferring to the Ambassadors Theatre in the West End, where it is currently selling tickets through Saturday, November 7.

The synopsis: “James and Lou move from Chicago to London to escape their past, but they soon discover that places aren’t haunted, people are… With an original story inspired by the film franchise, Paranormal Activity reimagines the modern ghost story with an intimacy that only live theatre can provide.”

Paranormal Activity is a Melting Pot production in association with Paramount Pictures.

Ailing Barry Manilow Cancels Tonight’s Vegas Performance

Published

on

An ailing Barry Manilow has canceled tonight’s performance at the International Theater at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino after cutting short last night’s show.

Tonight’s cancellation comes just two days after the singer’s much-anticipated return to the Vegas residency on Thursday after a six-week hiatus. Manilow has been treated for the lung cancer he initially disclosed last December.

“After a triumphant welcome-back concert on Thursday, Barry got hit with bronchitis and had to cancel his Friday and Saturday shows,” a representative for the musician told Deadline’s sister publication Variety.

Manilow took to the Westgate stage on Friday but reportedly ended the show after just a few songs, joking with the audience, “Talk amongst yourselves” before exiting. The night before, he said from the stage, “I’m back!”

The Vegas residency was originally scheduled to begin last February but was repeatedly postponed as the singer battled the cancer and previous bouts of bronchitis.

In May, he wrote on social media, “Good news! I went to the doctor yesterday and he said I’m making great progress and look great! Well of course I do! Thank you very much! All the training and exercising I’ve put in is paying off. He did say, however, that I’m not quite ready for Vegas. That means I won’t be able to return for our May shows at @WestgateVegas.”

As of mid-day today, Manilow had not yet made any social media comments on the latest cancellations.

Oscars 2027: U.K.’s Best International Feature Entry

Published

on

The U.K. has selected Pegah Ahangarani’s Rehearsals for a Revolution, which won the L’Oeil d’Or for best documentary at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, as its entry in the best international feature film category at the 2027 Oscars.

The film traces more than 40 years of Iran’s history through Ahangarani’s personal experiences of exile and the stories of her relatives and mentors. Drawing on personal archives, home videos, footage of street protests, newspapers and recorded voices, the filmmaker pieces together a portrait of a country shaped by political repression and a continuing hope for revolution.

Ahangarani, 42, wrote, researched, and edited the film in the U.K. over more than two and a half years, working with a team of British collaborators. The film made its world premiere in the special screenings section at Cannes earlier this year, then screened at the Telluride Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival.

Rehearsals for a Revolution was released in the U.K. in September. Sony Pictures Classics will hold Oscar-qualifying runs in New York and Los Angeles in December before opening the film exclusively at Landmark’s Nuart Theatre in Los Angeles and Film Forum in New York on Jan. 8, 2027. The film will then roll out to more theaters across the country in the following weeks.

“How extraordinary to see Pegah’s remarkable film recognized in this category. From winning the L’Oeil d’Or at Cannes to the standing ovations at TIFF and now this recognition, Rehearsals for a Revolution is building incredible momentum and marking a significant moment for a formidable female filmmaker creating in exile from her home country,” Sony Pictures Classics said in a statement. “This selection in the best international feature category has the potential to be truly transformative for the film, opening doors to audiences around the world while shining a spotlight on Pegah’s extraordinary talent and her vital voice. It’s a recognition that will have a lasting impact not only on the life of this film, but on Pegah’s future career as a filmmaker.”

Norway’s Sentimental Value, directed by Joachim Trier and starring Renate Reinsve and Stellan Skarsgård, won the best international feature film award at the 98th Academy Awards.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will announce the 15-film shortlist for the 2027 best international feature film Oscar on Dec. 15, with the five nominees to be revealed Jan. 21. The 99th Academy Awards will take place March 14, 2027.
