‘Industry’ Star Myha’la Claims “Racial Bias” Baked Into ‘The Traitors’

Published

on

Myha’la Herrold has claimed that “unconscious racial and cultural bias exists” in The Traitors format, but that she sealed her own fate after exiting the celebrity version on the BBC.

The Industry actress was banished from Season 2 of The Celebrity Traitors last week and has reflected on her experience on the Studio Lambert series in an Instagram post.

In a comment under the post, entrepreneur Chantel Sachanna claimed: “Unfortunately you were banished because you are BLACK. This is a consistent thread in this racist show.”

In response, Myha’la said she would have fully agreed with Sachanna had she not played a significant role in her own downfall, including winking at Richard E. Grant before he was banished as a traitor.

“I sealed my own fate! And that early in the game there is VERY little to grasp on to, and I gave them…a lot,” Myha’la she said.

“However, I do agree that unconscious racial and cultural bias exists in this game where my authenticity or honesty or the ways in which I choose to express myself look suspicious to people who are unfamiliar with people like me.”

She continued: “I had this fear coming into the game, as I am a BIG fan and also clocked right away how prevalent this is in this game. And I came in knowing I’d be the only American (apart from Honorary British National Treasure Jerry Hall).

“I’m not saying it’s right, I’m not saying racism doesn’t exist, but I do have to defend my dear friends on this show who in no way consciously put bias on me because of my race.”

Myha’la added: “That’s not a fair or complete assessment of what really happened in my case. And! I do think games like this should allow more conversation around unconscious bias and how, when under pressure, people (society) gravitate towards things they know and understand or subsequently push away from things they don’t. It’s all love, and I REALLY genuinely appreciate your support.”

The BBC has been approached for comment.

Netflix Scores Exclusive Rights To Stream FIFA World Cup 2030 In Spain

Published

on

In a significant statement of intent about its live ambitions, Netflix will exclusively stream every FIFA World Cup 2030 game live in Spain and Andorra.

With defending FIFA World Cup 2026 champions Spain serving as one of the competition’s three host nations — alongside Morocco and Portugal — Netflix will feature full live coverage of the tournament. Financial details were not disclosed.

RTVE, the state-owned Spanish network, broadcast the FIFA World Cup 2026.

As part of the deal, Netflix will make one match a day available for free in Spain. A package of matches, including every Spain match, both semi-finals and the final, will be made available for broadcast on a national free-to-air broadcaster. Details are yet to be confirmed.

“Few events unite people like the World Cup,” said Bela Bajaria, chief content officer at Netflix. “I was in the stands this year as Spain lifted the trophy and witnessed the passion, the pride, the stories — they all become part of a nation’s culture and are remembered for generations.”

Mattias Grafström, FIFA secretary general, said: “We are pleased to build on our partnership with Netflix as we look ahead to the FIFA World Cup 2030. This will be a special edition of the tournament, and we look forward to working together to bring it to fans across Spain and Andorra. Our shared ambition is to bring fans closer to the game and enable as many people as possible to share in the excitement of the competition.”

The World Cup deal builds on Netflix’s other live events, including rights to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 and 2031, NFL games, MLB, and WWE.

The deal extension is one of the first big international pacts confirmed by Skydance since it closed its mega merger with Warners.

Under the deal, the two entities will launch a joint label for local original projects developed by both companies. The announcement said the projects will have “national and international ambitions.” The series will premiere simultaneously on Movistar Plus and HBO Max in Spain. The first two titles to carry the joint Originals label are:

  • ‘Veredicto’, a Movistar Plus and HBO Original series produced in collaboration with Ikiru Films and Luminol Media, created by Eduard Sola, Pol Cortecans and Daniel González from an original idea by Carles Porta, and starring Nagore Aranburu, Ernesto Alterio, Alba Flores, Omar Ayuso, Secun de la Rosa, Alfredo Castro, Marc Soler, Júlia Mascort, Cris Blanco and Mamen Duch.
  • A new Movistar Plus and HBO Original series from Carles Porta and Los Moriarti (Maspalomas, Marco, The Endless Trench), starring Anna Castillo, Pol López and Eduard Fernández.

The agreement also includes the renewal of a selection of Skydance TV channels available on Movistar Plus. The renewed line-up includes Warner TV, TCM, Discovery, Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2, as well as the Cartoon Network VOD service. Movistar Plus will also continue to have access to first-run films and catalogue titles from Warner Bros. Pictures. The agreement includes non-exclusive rights to the PGA Tour. The deal will run from July 2026 through December 2027.

Alfonso Gómez Palacio, CEO of Movistar Plus, said in a statement: “This agreement strengthens our long-standing strategic partnership with Skydance and allows us to continue offering our customers one of the most comprehensive entertainment propositions in the market, combining the best user experience with some of the most recognized content and brands in the audiovisual industry.”

Anthony Zuiker Launches True Crime App Cinemalistics

Published

on

“My pitching days are over. That’s it. I quit, starting now… The CSI guy is dead. Welcome to my autopsy.”

That was the entry point for CSI: Crime Scene Investigation creator Anthony E. Zuiker‘s MIPCOM Cannes keynote, in which he pulled back the curtain on Cinemalistics, an app that he called “a true-crime studio that turns real events into cinematic storytelling, built only from verified facts.”

Zuiker first revealed the Cinemalistics in May as an AI-powered true-crime service that gives the user a chance to follow unfolding crimes through video, databases and other forms of evidence that develop, but MIPCOM is its first public showing.

As such, Zuiker was in full showman mode today as he delivered a talk on the vision, complete with pictures from his childhood, AI-generated images of crime scenes and even one of his own ‘death.’

“Cinemalistics is the world’s first real-time true-crime media platform,” he said. “It is not a streaming service, a news site or a documentary studio. It is a completely new category: A platform where stories evolve as reality is revealed and evidence remains connected to narrative.”

The app will include 20 tabs that allow users access to documentary-style footage of crimes as they happen, archive that maps the case, and “blinking live-file indicators” that alert users to new data sourced from verified sources.

“No conjecture. No hyperbole. Only accuracy,” was how Zuiker put it.

As the story updates, videos adapt the reflect the new information, and users are encouraged to investigate through tools that could include police reports, 911 calls, court filings, witness statements, crime-scene evidence, autopsy filings, press conferences, video records and public documents. “Twenty buttons. The entire case file at your fingertips,” said Zuiker.

He added that Cinemalistics will continue even once an arrest is made. “At that point, the real-time phase concludes, but the Cinemalistics journey does not,” said Zuiker.

“The result is not only a living archive of the investigation, but also two completed pieces of premium content: a feature-length motion picture and a long-form documentary, both built from the same verified foundation.

“That is where another dimension of the business model emerges. Cinemalistics satisfies the audience’s immediate desire to understand what is happening, while also building a valuable content library that can live beyond the life cycle of the investigation.”

Zuiker said he was applying the same depth of research into Cinemalistics as he did with the CBS show that launched his career, CSI. The writer, producer and showrunner made 911 episodes of the franchise, which he said “reached a valuation of approximately” $12 billion.

“CSI became a global phenomenon for many reasons, but the factor that set it apart was research,” he said. “It was a forensic procedural drama that depended on the depth and accuracy of its research.

“Our writers’ rooms were built around research, and that gave the shows a global edge that resonated around the world. Our source material included Reddit, Yahoo, CNN, Al Jazeera, the Daily Mail and TMZ. Every story began with research. That was the secret sauce of scripted television.”

Zuiker said Cinemalistics’ ultimate goal is to change crime content in “the age of understanding,” speeing up the time to takes to get under the bonnet of developing story. “This is how the world will watch the truth – as it happened.”

Plans For New Genres

Zuiker co-founded Cinemalistics with former CAA agent David Freeman, and had backers such as David Carsten and his venture capital firm 5IR Funds. Nvidia’s AI tools are being used to power the app.

The ambition is for Cinemalistics to move beyond crime and into a total of 12 areas such as sport, breaking news, politics, scandals, natural disasters and major public events.

In his entertaining, freewheeling speech today, Zuiker mused how a thirteenth version of the app could be called Cinemalistics Sussex – documenting the hectic lives of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – and he couldn’t resist a small dig at the royal couple. “Grabbed the popcorn, dumped the peanut M&Ms and supersized the soda, because these two keep giving us sequels nobody ever ordered,” he joked.

Turning back to the sales pitch, Zuiker concluded: “MIPCOM, Cinemalistics is not simply a real-time crime app. At its core, it is an operating system for understanding complex stories.

“From the age of broadcast, to the age of information, to the age of understanding, it has been quite a journey – from a boy with a pen behind his ear to whatever comes next. It turns out I was not just thinking about television after all.”
