Seo Hyun Jin does not pick projects lightly — and her next one sounds like a puzzle box. The actress has opened up about why she chose to star in the upcoming psychological thriller “The Perfect Lie,” which premieres on October 30 at 9:50 p.m. KST.

Directed by Jo Young Min of “You and Everything Else,” the drama hinges on a deliciously unsettling premise: a man and a woman give completely opposite accounts of the same memory, then clash fiercely as each fights to establish their version as the truth. It is a story built on unreliable memory and the terrifying question of what happens when two people remember the same event in entirely different ways.
Seo Hyun Jin plays Kang Ji Sun, the woman who insists she is telling the truth. Explaining what drew her to the role, the actress said she was captivated by “the complex relationships between the characters, the psychological battles and the emotional arcs that weren’t one-dimensional.” In a genre crowded with twists for twists’ sake, it was the depth of the people — not just the plot mechanics — that sold her.
Strength, in One Word
Asked to describe Kang Ji Sun in a single word, Seo Hyun Jin did not hesitate: “strength.” She elaborated that countless things happen in her character’s life, but Kang Ji Sun has the courage to face them head-on rather than turn away — and that quality, she believes, is what defines the character and makes her compelling to watch.
Newly released stills show Seo Hyun Jin radiating an elegant yet sophisticated beauty as Kang Ji Sun, but the real work happened beneath the surface. According to the production team, the actress carefully mapped out her approach before every shoot and poured tremendous energy into the performance, obsessing over the smallest details — the character’s gaze, her facial expressions, the weight of every line of dialogue. Her dedication reportedly drew admiration from everyone on set.
A Thriller Built on Character
“The Perfect Lie” arrives at a moment when psychological thrillers live or die on their leads, and Seo Hyun Jin — long celebrated for her precision and emotional intelligence on screen — looks like exactly the right anchor for a story about contested truth. If Kang Ji Sun is as strong as her portrayer promises, viewers are in for a battle of wills worth watching.
