DC’s Mister Miracle Animated Series Casts Josh Hutcherson as Scott Free and Mackenzie Davis as Big Barda

DC Studios has revealed the lead voices for its upcoming Mister Miracle animated series: Josh Hutcherson will voice Scott Free and Mackenzie Davis will voice Big Barda. The casting news came straight from DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran himself in an interview with IGN published today.

The series adapts Tom King’s Eisner Award-winning 2017 Mister Miracle comic run, widely regarded as one of the greatest superhero stories ever told. It will run for eight episodes, with King writing every one of them himself.

Tom King Wrote All Eight Episodes Himself

Safran revealed that showrunner Tom King — who co-created the 12-issue comic alongside artist Mitch Gerads — fully adapted his own book for the screen and penned all eight episodes solo.

“I think that Tom King really learned a lot in his season of co-creating and executive producing Lanterns and he adapted his book Mister Miracle fully on his own, wrote all eight episodes and I think it’s just dynamite,” Safran said.

Safran also recalled King telling him early on that “every convention he goes to, at least a couple people come up to him and say this book saved my life” — and that getting to tell that story across eight episodes was a major draw for DC Studios.

Josh Hutcherson as Scott Free, Mackenzie Davis as Big Barda

Josh Hutcherson — known to a generation as Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games and more recently for Five Nights at Freddy’s — takes on Scott Free, the New God escape artist trapped in a cosmic battle between New Genesis and Apokolips. It’s a role that demands both humor and heartbreak, and Hutcherson’s recent pivot into genre leading-man territory makes the casting intriguing.

Mackenzie Davis, last seen in Speak No Evil and Terminator: Dark Fate, voices Big Barda, the warrior who is arguably the emotional core of King’s story — a Fury of Apokolips who chose love and freedom over her terrifying upbringing.

What We Don’t Know Yet

A network and release date for Mister Miracle are still under wraps. Safran also addressed Lanterns, saying a second season is not yet locked in but its future is being actively discussed — it all depends on whether they can find a story worthy of following the first season.

With King’s deeply personal, psychologically layered source material and two strong leads, Mister Miracle is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious entries in the DCU’s expanding animated slate.
