Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick insists the club has moved on from Lisandro Martinez’s explosive post-match interview, telling reporters he is “telling the truth” when he says the dressing room is unaffected by the fallout.

Defending the Dressing Room
Speaking at a pre-match media conference at United’s Carrington training ground, Carrick hit back at the pundits circling the story — including his close friend and former team-mate Wayne Rooney, who warned Martinez could “rip the dressing room apart” after the defender attacked the club’s hierarchy following the 2-0 Champions League defeat by Atletico Madrid.
“Just because people talk on the outside doesn’t mean that is the truth. I am telling you the truth,” Carrick said. “The squad today was in a fantastic place, better than I have seen it for a while. That is it, plain and simple. We are living it every day and know what it feels like.”
Wilcox in the Crosshairs Again
Martinez has apologised for the timing of his comments — which put the spotlight on director of football Jason Wilcox — but not for the words themselves. Wilcox, who became director of football after Dan Ashworth’s sacking in December 2024, is back under fire after previously being targeted by Ruben Amorim in his final press conference before his January dismissal.
Carrick confirmed Martinez will be “part of the squad” for Sunday’s Premier League trip to Leeds at Elland Road. With United having won just one of their opening six Premier League games, the pressure is mounting — and Carrick knows it.
