Tsuburaya Productions and Toei Animation have lifted the veil on their long-in-development CG kaiju project. The official website for Kaiju Decode: The Ring of Aidara (Kaiju Decode: Aidara no Yubiwa) revealed a teaser trailer and a brand-new teaser visual on Sunday, confirming that the anime will debut in 2027.

The announcement comes more than five years after the project’s first proof-of-concept. A full anime short for Kaiju Decode streamed in December 2021 on the Tsuburaya Imagination website, alongside a VR anime short titled Kaiju Decode: First Contact for Oculus Quest. Both were billed as the “first part” of the larger project, and now the next chapter finally has a name, a trailer, and a premiere year.
A Story About Kaiju and Girls
The new anime takes place in Sakai in Osaka prefecture, and its theme is simply described as “a story about kaiju and girls.” Karin Takahashi has been cast as Coco, a girl of the Aidara tribe who lives in a dangerous Zone where beasts roam. According to the production team, the studios are aiming the project at a worldwide audience.
Behind the scenes, the project is assembling a genuinely star-studded creative team. Katsuie Shibata (Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Isekai) is writing the screenplay. Monster design is being handled by Masayuki Gotou, known for his work on SSSS.Dynazenon — a name that should excite tokusatsu and anime fans alike. Sei Nakashima, the Hollywood CG art director behind the end credits illustrations of Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution and concept art for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, is the character designer for Maru. Masatsugu Saitō (Cyborg 009 Call of Justice) is designing Coco herself. The striking new teaser visual was illustrated by JNTHED, known for work on Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury.
Veteran Producers at the Helm
The producers for the project include Kōichi Noguchi and Masahiro Onda. Noguchi produced Expelled from Paradise and KADO – The Right Answer, while Onda is a veteran Tsuburaya Productions producer who worked on Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial and served as an executive producer on the SSSS.Gridman anime series.
For comparison, the earlier 2021 short was directed by S/N at Arect with a script by Tetsuya Yamada, music by Tadahiko Inoue, and a cast featuring Nobunaga Shimazaki as Rei, Marika Kōno as Miru, Mayumi Shintani as Zora, and Aya Yamane as Real Rei.
With two animation powerhouses, a world-class design team, and a 2027 target, Kaiju Decode: The Ring of Aidara is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious CG anime projects in recent memory. More details — including the full cast and staff — are expected as the premiere year approaches.
