Korean star Kim Yong Man has sparked backlash among viewers after confessing on the October 17 broadcast of MBN’s “Healing Talk Dongchimi” that he still keeps photos of an ex-girlfriend in a cherished old notebook.

A Notebook Full of Memories

The episode’s theme was “I’ll Love This Fall,” and when host Lee Hyun Yi shared that her husband had been rewatching old couple’s variety shows with nostalgia, Kim Yong Man empathized. “Men have a certain romanticism about memories,” he said – then dropped the bombshell: “Even now, whenever we move, I bring along an old notebook. It has photos of friends I used to meet and poems I wrote. I carry it with me, but my wife doesn’t understand and asks why I can’t throw it away.”

When the panel learned the notebook includes pictures of an ex-girlfriend, outrage erupted among the wives in the studio, who found it completely unacceptable.

His Defense Falls Flat

Kim Yong Man tried to talk his way out of it: “The photos aren’t clear – they’re blurry. I didn’t date that person as an adult; it was just a brief innocent encounter.” He added that the photos show several friends together, not the two of them alone, and claimed his wife had said it was okay.

But when Choi Hong Rim flipped the question – “Would you want your wife to have pure photos with an old boyfriend?” – Kim Yong Man froze, pretending not to hear: “What did you say?” The dodge only fueled the audience’s outrage.

Married for years and having moved “four or five times” since the wedding, Kim Yong Man admitted his wife asks him to throw the notebook away every single time – and every time, he keeps it anyway. Some memories, it seems, are harder to toss than others.
