Actor Lee Tae Sung opened up about one of the most personal parts of his life, admitting that being a single dad has made dating incredibly difficult for him. The candid confession came during the October 17 broadcast of MBN’s Healing Talk Dongchimi, which focused on the theme “I’ll Love This Fall.”

“I debuted in my senior year of high school. Through acting, I’ve dated, fallen in love, and even had a wedding scene. But I’ve never been on a blind date,” Lee Tae Sung revealed. “Since I have a son, dating hasn’t been easy.”
His Son Always Comes First
The actor explained that after his son was born and he returned to acting, he did try dating — but it came with constant challenges. One of the hardest moments, he recalled, came around Christmas when his son was young. His girlfriend wanted to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas together over a nice meal, but he had to be with his son.
“I confessed that my girlfriend came second,” he said honestly.
That guilt, he shared, followed him everywhere. “I wonder what my baby wants, if he wants to go to an amusement park? Even when I’m on a date, I feel a constant pang of guilt. Even if I take my girlfriend somewhere nice, I ask myself if this is okay.”
When fellow guest Hyun Young suggested he should just meet his dates together with his son, Lee Tae Sung explained that it wasn’t that simple when the child was little. “When the child is young, it can be confusing. Now that he’s grown, he understands, but when he was little, it was hard to explain.”
“That’s When I Feel Truly Lonely”
When asked when he feels the loneliest, Lee Tae Sung painted a picture that hit home for many viewers. “When I’m sick, eating dinner alone, feeding the dogs. Just me and the dogs eating simply — curry and some kimchi.”
He went on to describe feverish nights when he drives himself to the hospital, gets an IV drip, and afterward stops at a soup restaurant alone. “Everyone else is eating with their family and friends. What’s worse is that the food tastes good then. That’s when I feel truly lonely.”
Despite the hardships, Lee Tae Sung’s story resonated as an honest look at the sacrifices of single parenthood — a father who chose his child every single time, even when it cost him romance.
