Tsugumi Project anime cast members (Credits: ippatu/Ki-oon, Tsugumi Project anime’s X/Twitter account)
The upcoming television anime adaptation of ippatu’s Tsugumi Project manga has revealed its first three cast members, and the announcement came with a treat for fans: a newly released voice comic video featuring two of the three actors performing the characters already.
The cast reveal was announced through the anime’s official X/Twitter account on Monday, October 19. While the names of the three performers have been shared, full details on which characters they will voice were kept close to the source material’s voice comic, which serves as the first audio taste of the anime to come.
A Post-Apocalyptic Adventure With a Manga Worth Reading First
For those unfamiliar with the series, Tsugumi Project follows Leon, a soldier ripped from his family on a trumped-up charge and thrown into a suicide mission: recover a dangerous weapon from a place overrun by huge, irradiated, mutated monsters — a place that was once known as Japan, 200 years in the past.
The catch is that neither Leon nor his teammates are expected to survive the mission. All they know about the weapon is its name: Tsugumi.
From France to Japan, the Manga’s Unusual Journey
What makes this series notable is its unusual publishing history. French artist ippatu (a Japanese artist, despite the French connection) first launched the manga in France through publisher Ki-oon in 2019 as an original manga, before Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine began serializing it in Japan in January 2021.
The manga concluded in September 2023 with an epilogue chapter, and Kodansha published its seventh and final compiled volume in November 2023. Kodansha USA Publishing brought the manga to English readers, releasing the final volume in September 2025, while the French edition wrapped up in February 2024.
With the first cast now revealed and a voice comic already out, fans of the manga can expect more anime announcements in the coming months. The combination of a high-stakes post-apocalyptic premise and ippatu’s striking art makes this one of the more intriguing anime adaptations on the horizon.
