The saga of the Demon Lord’s futuristic second coming is officially winding down. Kadokawa’s Fantasia Bunko imprint announced on Tuesday, October 20, that author Daigo Murasaki and illustrator Kureta’s Demon Lord 2099 (Maou 2099) light novel series will end with its sixth volume.

Murasaki and Kureta launched the series back in January 2021, with the fifth volume landing in November 2025. In English, the novels are being released by Yen Press, which has kept the cyberpunk-fantasy hybrid in print for Western readers throughout its run.
A Demon Lord Reborn in a Cyberpunk Shinjuku
The story unfolds in Fused Era Year 2099, in a sprawling Shinjuku city-state where dazzling prosperity hides a dark underbelly. The legendary Demon Lord Veltol awakens five centuries after his defeat to discover magic and technology fused into a world he must learn to conquer all over again. The series’ blend of dark fantasy and cyberpunk aesthetics made it a standout on Fantasia Bunko’s shelves.
Anime and Manga Adaptations
Demon Lord 2099 also spawned an anime adaptation that premiered in October 2024 on Tokyo MX, Gunma TV, Tochigi TV, and BS11. Crunchyroll streamed the series across English-speaking, Latin American, and European territories, including an English dub. Manga adaptations followed as well, with Yen Press releasing Yutaka Sakurai’s manga take on the story in English.
With the finale now on the horizon, fans can look forward to seeing how Veltol’s bid to rule the brave new world finally resolves.
