Lee Jung Jae in Talks for Choi Dong Hoon’s Sparrow Film With Mun Ka Young, Filming Set for 2027

A major Korean blockbuster reunion might be in the works. Lee Jung Jae has received an offer to star in director Choi Dong Hoon’s new film “Sparrow” (literal title) — and he reportedly wants in. With Mun Ka Young also in talks, the project is shaping up as one of Korea’s most anticipated upcoming films.

Lee Jung Jae in Talks for Choi Dong Hoon’s Sparrow Film

According to Max Movie, Lee Jung Jae received the offer on October 22 and expressed interest in joining the project. His agency, Artist Company, confirmed the news while keeping expectations measured: “Lee Jung Jae has received an offer to appear in director Choi Dong Hoon’s new film ‘Sparrow.’ He is currently reviewing the script, and his appearance has not been confirmed.”

If it happens, this would be the actor-director duo’s first reunion in 11 years — Lee previously headlined two of Choi’s biggest hits: the 2015 espionage thriller “Assassination” and the star-studded 2012 heist blockbuster “The Thieves.” Choi Dong Hoon is one of the few Korean directors with multiple 10-million-ticket films, so his name alone guarantees industry attention.

Mun Ka Young Also Offered a Role; Filming Set for 2027

Earlier the same day, Mun Ka Young was reported to have received her own offer to star in the film, making the potential pairing with Lee Jung Jae a generational crossover. “Sparrow” is described as a genre-blending film combining espionage, mystery, and crime drama — squarely in Choi Dong Hoon’s comfort zone. Filming is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027.
