Park Yu Rim is diving into one of the darkest roles of her career. The actress has opened up about playing Jojo, a mysterious assassin, in the upcoming Korean film Triste Tropiques, revealing she pushed herself through brutal preparation to get every detail right.
Set around a killer organization that shares the film’s name, the story follows members raised like brothers under their master. After his death, the group vows bloody revenge while suspicion quietly tears them apart from the inside.
Who Is Park Yu Rim’s Assassin Jojo in Triste Tropiques?
Unlike the rest of the organization, Jojo joined the group of her own free will as a child and blindly follows the absolute authority of “Master” (played by Kim Myung Min). Park described Jojo as unpredictable and tightly guarded: “Unlike the other characters, Jojo does not easily reveal her emotions and instead conceals them completely.” She believes that hidden coldness will be one of the film’s biggest highlights.
The role demanded far more than acting range. Because Jojo speaks Japanese, Park Yu Rim worked repeatedly with a Japanese language instructor before filming even began. She also spent hours in front of a mirror correcting her posture to carry the weight of heavy firearms and handle the deafening sound of gunshots during action scenes.
Park Yu Rim on Challenging Herself With the Role
The actress called the experience pure joy, saying, “As an actress, I felt immense joy in challenging myself with something new and being able to portray a wide range of emotions.” Turning an unknown assassin into a fully believable gunfighter is exactly the kind of transformation she wanted.
Cinematographer Kim Young Ho also praised her commitment to the film’s visual language, noting how her presence elevates the tension in key sequences. With its mix of brooding loyalty, betrayal, and ruthless action, Triste Tropiques is shaping up as one of the most intriguing Korean action films on the horizon.
