Crunchyroll has added the English dub for The Prince of Tennis: Two Samurais, The First Game, giving long-time fans a fresh way to experience the franchise’s very first movie. The dub, along with one more classic film, arrived on the platform on October 15.
The release covers both the 2005 feature film and its companion short The Prince of Tennis: A Gift from Atobe (Atobe Kara no Okurimono). Both films opened in Japan in January 2005, and Crunchyroll already streamed them in Japanese audio with English subtitles.
The Prince of Tennis: Two Samurais, The First Game English Dub Details
The main film sends the players of Seigaku onto a cruise ship for what is supposed to be an exhibition match. Things take a dark turn when the team discovers the event is secretly run by a corrupt millionaire who expects them to lose on purpose. With pride and the sport itself on the line, Seigaku plays the game of their lives.
The companion short takes a lighter tone: Hyoutei Gakuen team captain Keigo Atobe throws an over-the-top party for his friend and teammate Munehiro Kabaji, with the pair diving into all kinds of sports and activities.
Why This Matters for Prince of Tennis Fans
The Prince of Tennis remains one of anime’s defining sports franchises, and these 2005 films are pure nostalgia for viewers who grew up with Ryoma and the Seigaku crew. An official English dub for the first movie finally gives dub watchers a way to revisit the cruise-ship showdown without subtitles.
It also lands at a fitting moment: the sequel series The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Cup has kept the franchise active in recent years, so both old and new fans can jump between generations. If you have been waiting to hear these classic matches in English, now is the time.
