Pirate Mo and the Legend of the Red Ruby is charting a course straight into the global market. Sales company The Playmaker Munich has closed fresh territory deals on the animated family adventure ahead of the American Film Market, where it will hold its market premiere — and the film has now sold to more than 50 countries.
Variety is exclusively debuting the film’s teaser, giving buyers and fans their first real look at the swashbuckling adventure.
Pirate Mo and the Legend of the Red Ruby: 50+ Countries and Counting
The latest buyers include Umbrella Entertainment, which picked up rights for Australia and New Zealand, plus Israel’s FilmHouse and Vietnam’s Skyline Media. For an animated feature heading into AFM, crossing the 50-country mark before its market premiere is a serious vote of confidence.
The film is helmed by Florian Westermann, co-director of The Amazing Maurice, which gives Pirate Mo a strong pedigree in European family animation. Family adventures with a pirate setting have a long track record at the box office, and distributors are clearly betting this one can travel.
What to Expect From the Animated Adventure
While plot details remain under wraps, the title points to a classic treasure-hunt voyage led by its pirate hero Mo and the legendary Red Ruby at the center of the quest. Animated family adventures live or die on charm and spectacle, and the early sales momentum suggests buyers see both.
With its AFM market premiere now set, expect more casting, voice, and release news to follow as the sales team courts the remaining territories. For now, the teaser gives the clearest signal yet: this pirate is ready to sail.
