Harry Potter Production Accounts Reveal £130.6M Budget Clue, Ranking HBO Series With Game of Thrones

Harry Potter is on course to become one of the most expensive television series HBO has ever made. Production accounts filed in the UK have given the first hard clue about the budget behind the adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved books, and the number is enormous.

A source familiar with the adaptation confirmed that the Potter series will rank alongside the final season of Game of Thrones and The Last of Us, two of the priciest shows HBO has ever produced, placing it firmly in the upper tier of streaming television spending.

Harry Potter’s £130.6 million production clue

Harry Potter is being produced in the UK through the special purpose vehicle company Plum Jam Productions, which recently filed its 2025 earnings with the UK’s Companies House. The accounts showed the company’s revenue at £130.6 million (about $175 million) last year, when Season 1 first went into production at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.

That figure represents a dramatic jump from £18.4 million in 2024, when development on the show was just getting underway, underscoring how production ramped up once cameras started rolling.

What the accounts tell us about the HBO budget

While the filings record revenue rather than a final spend figure, UK special purpose vehicle accounts like these are routinely used as the clearest public window into what prestige productions cost. With Season 1 alone generating £130.6 million in activity, and the source’s comparison to the last season of Game of Thrones and The Last of Us, the message is clear: HBO is treating the wizarding world as one of its biggest financial bets ever.
