AEW is starting the new year with a bang — the promotion has officially announced that its annual New Year’s Smash special will span January 1 and 2, kicking off the 2027 wrestling calendar with two stacked nights of action.

The announcement gives fans an early landmark on the calendar. AEW has made New Year’s Smash a tradition of its holiday-season programming, following hot on the heels of the December pay-per-view season, and the two-night format sets up a bigger-than-usual showcase to open the year.
What New Year’s Smash Means for AEW’s January
Last year’s edition set a high bar: Willow Nightingale captured the TBS Championship from Mercedes Moné to become the first woman in AEW history to hold two titles at once, Jon Moxley beat Josh Alexander in a Continental Championship eliminator, and MJF kicked off his AEW World Championship reign by bringing back his “Triple B” title belt. AEW will need something big to top that.
The January 1–2 placement also puts the shows in direct position to set the table for the road to Revolution — AEW’s spring pay-per-view — meaning title pictures and major angles could be launched across both nights.

So far, only the dates are confirmed. No matches, venues, or broadcast details have been announced yet, but with AEW’s weekly Dynamite and Collision lineups feeding directly into the special, expect the card to take shape through December. Keep it locked here for updates as matches are announced.
