CM Punk and Kevin Owens are done talking — well, almost. Before their grudge match was even made official, the two tore into each other in a blistering sit-down with SmackDown GM Nick Aldis, and the exchange made one thing clear: this is personal. The match is now set for November 6 in Brooklyn, New York, just one day before Crown Jewel.

The confrontation aired on the October 23 SmackDown, with Aldis appearing on video alongside both men to announce the match. But before the GM could finish, the segment turned into a war of words that felt anything but scripted.
Punk immediately made it clear he did not want to be there, calling the entire conversation a waste of his time — and then pointed the finger squarely at Owens, blaming him for costing him the Undisputed WWE Championship.
CM Punk vs Kevin Owens: The War of Words Before Brooklyn
Owens was not having any of it. He fired back that Punk would not be facing Roman Reigns at Crown Jewel anyway, and argued that he should be the Undisputed WWE Champion right now — because of Punk’s actions, not the other way around.
Then it got truly personal. Owens brought up Punk’s time away from WWE, saying he was perfectly happy ignoring Punk while he was gone — and eventually realized that interacting with Punk was what made him miserable in the first place. Punk’s response was ice cold: he told Owens he did not even know him. Owens shot back that he knew enough people who had dealt with Punk over the years to know exactly what kind of person he was.
Why Punk vs Owens in Brooklyn Won’t Be Just Another Match
Strip away the insults and the core issue is simple: both men believe the other is responsible for keeping him away from the Undisputed WWE Championship. That shared grievance is what makes this more than a standard grudge match — it is two wrestlers who genuinely seem to despise each other fighting over the same stolen opportunity.
Their last meeting on the August 21 SmackDown saw Punk defend his WWE Championship against Owens, but the bad blood has only intensified since. Now they get the rematch on the go-home show to Crown Jewel, in front of a Brooklyn crowd that lives for this kind of hostility.
With both men carrying a grudge and neither willing to back down, November 6 in Brooklyn is shaping up to be a fight — not just a match.
