Darren Young Clears Up WWE Role: ‘Guest Coach’ at Performance Center, Not a Full-Time NXT Hire

Darren Young had wrestling fans thinking he was officially back with WWE as an NXT coach — but there is one important detail he needed to clear up. Just one day after celebrating his return to the WWE Performance Center, Young clarified exactly where things stand: he was there as a guest coach, not as a new full-time hire.

Darren Young Explains His WWE Performance Center Guest Coach Role

Young took to social media to explain that he spent the week at the Performance Center observing how things are currently done while getting hands-on experience with WWE’s younger talent. “This week, I made my rounds as a GUEST COACH, observing, learning, and seeing how things are done. But I also had the opportunity to work closely with some young hopefuls, brainwashing them into believing in themselves and exploiting the gifts they already possess!”

He also shared the coaching philosophy he brought with him: rather than molding everybody into the same kind of WWE performer, he wants to figure out what each talent already does well and exploit those gifts.

Darren Young’s Wrestling Kids: Hanada, Amy and Austin

Young singled out three prospects he would happily take under his wing if the guest spot ever turned permanent. Hidetora Hanada — a sumo wrestling and Colorado State football background — won him over with a willingness to be coached. Amy, a dancer with natural presence, killed it on the mic in class and earned an NXT television opportunity. Austin, with a background in bobsled and American football, also impressed on the mic and earned NXT TV time — and Young sees “a young Wade Barrett” in him.

“There were several others I enjoyed working with, but these three would definitely be my wrestling kids if I were there full-time!” Young wrote.
