Sami Zayn is still the Undisputed WWE Champion — but the way he kept the title against Trick Williams on the October 30 SmackDown is already one of the most controversial finishes of the year. In a No Disqualification main event, Zayn resorted to a low blow and a championship belt shot to steal the win.

The brawl spilled everywhere. Lil Yachty got involved early, handing Williams a kendo stick that led to an early near fall. The fight poured into the crowd, steel chairs entered the ring, and Williams nearly had the match won with a jumping neckbreaker, a cyclone kick, and a uranage attempt onto the chairs — with Zayn countering into a Blue Thunder Bomb for a close two-count.
How the Controversial Finish Played Out
The closing sequence was chaos. Williams grabbed the championship belt and waited for Zayn — but when the referee got pushed into the action, Zayn shoved the official aside and delivered a low blow to Williams while the referee wasn’t looking. He then blasted Williams with the belt and covered him for the three-count.
Yes, the match was already No Disqualification — the low blow and belt shot were perfectly legal. But Zayn hiding the low blow from the referee anyway tells its own story about how desperate the champion was to keep his title.
Zayn Survives Heading Toward Crown Jewel
The win means Zayn walks into the Crown Jewel season still champion, even as Roman Reigns openly questions whether he can make it there with the gold. The bigger question now: is Zayn evolving into a ruthless, anything-to-win champion — or was this simply a desperate man doing whatever it took?
Either way, SmackDown went off the air with fans buzzing, and a rematch feels inevitable.
