Championship Grand Final: London Broncos demolish Doncaster in 78-6 victory to complete treble | Rugby League News

London Broncos are Championship Grand Final winners following a 78-6 win over Doncaster RLFC.

Jason Demetriou’s side completed the ‘treble’ after sweeping aside the South Yorkshire club this afternoon.

They had already eased to the League Leaders’ Shield in August and quickly added the 1895 Cup to their haul after defeating Widnes Vikings.

London lost just one of their 24 regular round games and, therefore, were overwhelming favourites to go on and claim the Championship title after successfully navigating the play-offs.

They duly did with a commanding display at Cherry Red Records Stadium, racing into a 38-0 interval lead and never looking back.

Jimmy Meadows finished with a personal haul of 20 points courtesy of two tries and six goals while Robert Mathias, Siliva Havili, Connor O’Beirne, Emarly Bitungane, Dean Hawkins and newly-crowned Championship Player of the Year Gairo Voro all also crossed.

Papuan star Voro added four conversions and Luke Smith – in his final game before returning to the NRL with Perth Bears – added a last-minute penalty.

Doncaster, who had impressively worked their way to the showpiece from fourth spot, could only muster a 64th-minute Luis Johnson try, improved by Connor Robinson.

The game marked the last professional outing for Doncaster star Reece Lyne, the ex-Hull FC, Wakefield Trinity and England centre who now retires aged 33, plus former Leeds Rhinos winger Luke Briscoe.
