Something Is Killing The Children Movie: Craig Zobel & Blumhouse Teaming

Published

on

Craig Zobel, a director known for his work on such prestige series as Mare of Easttown and The Penguin, is set to direct a feature adaptation of Something Is Killing the Children, the popular comic book series from James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera, with Jason Blum and his Blumhouse among the producers.

Stephen Christy and Tynion IV will produce the film for BOOM! Studios/Penguin Random House, alongside Blum for Blumhouse. Shaun Sutton and Ryan Turek will exec produce alongside Adam Yoelin and Mette Norkjaer, with Dell’Edera acting as co-producer.

The news came out of New York Comic-Con, where Blumhouse laid out its 2027 slate.

First published by BOOM! Studios, an imprint of Penguin Random House, in 2019, Something is Killing the Children centers on Erica Slaughter, a monster hunter who arrives in the small town of Archer’s Peak after children begin disappearing to take down the creature preying on them. It’s the most successful original horror comic book since The Walking Dead, with more than 5 million copies sold worldwide, having been translated into more than 20 languages in 14 countries.

While developing the live-action feature, Blumhouse is simultaneously developing an adult animated series version of Something Is Killing the Children to be shepherded by Tynion IV.

A DGA Award nominee and three-time Emmy nominee, Zobel broke out with indies like Compliance and Z for Zachariah before going on to work on shows such as The Leftovers, American Gods, Westworld, Mare of Easttown and The Penguin. He also helmed the satirical horror film The Hunt and just wrapped production on Turpentine, a new thriller starring Melissa McCarthy and Connie Storrie. He is repped by CAA, SSM&L, Entertainment 360 and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Blumhouse–Atomic Monster is in theaters this weekend with Rob Savage’s Universal horror Other Mommy, based on the novel Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman. Their slate for next year includes the Joshua Giuliano buzz title River, Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist: Martyrs, Anything but Ghosts from Obsession‘s Curry Barker, a new Paranormal Activity, the Savage-helmed Mole People, a new Blair Witch Project from Dylan Clark, Sleepover from director Jacob Chase, and Drew Hancock’s Seasons.

‘Saturday Night Live’: Shane Gillis’ Third Time Hosting

Published

on

In his third time hosting Saturday Night Live, Shane Gillis isn’t making the case for a triumphant return to the cast.

On this weekend’s episode, which also featured musical guest Rosalía, the comedian delivered several on-brand sketches that featured his signature everyman sense of humor, but no water cooler moments worth meme-ifying.

Gillis’ opening monologue was a tight five about his Bud Light commercials and getting into shape with workout buddies Joe Rogan and Theo Von, during which he put on his best femme voice to mimic gym gays and complained that “women just dress like whores now” at the gym.

The comedian also noted that he’s “balded directly into an Adolph Hitler haircut,” and the only other option is looking gay. “That’s it, you’re either gay or Hitler. And isn’t that where we’re at as a country?” he quipped.

In the first sketch, Gillis played the host of a cop talk show, in which he just arrested his various guests.

Gillis then appeared in a country song music video, playing the father of a bride who imagines what he’ll do with her room when she moves out, only to end up hooking up with Ms. Pac-Man in a cloud of black mold.

In a Green Eggs and Ham sketch, featuring Mikey Day as the Cat in the Hat and Gillis as his defensive son who thinks his dad is being scammed, the host made things interesting when he accidentally dropped an F-bomb.

A History Channel sketch about WWII-time inventors patenting quiet shoes saw Gillis’ character finding them handy for “sneaking” around his wife, hence the name “sneakers.”

Gillis also led a heating/AC commercial that’s honest about how much of a nightmare of a process is, complete with workers making fun of you, smoking in your doorway and staring through your windows.

Rosalía, Marcello Hernandez, Grace Reiter, Ben Marshall and Shane Gillis on ‘Saturday Night Live’

Meanwhile, new cast member Grace Reiter continued to prove her chops as she played problem child Coco in a Weekend Update segment in which her mom (Ashley Padilla) can’t find a babysitter. She was a perfect match for Padilla as the bratty daughter publicly embarrassing her mom.

Reiter also shared a couple of sketches with Gillis, playing his elderly mother as a hospice nurse (Sarah Sherman) tells him she only has a few days, which conflicts with his plans to see Jelly Roll in Vegas. The sketch also features a cameo from Ben Marshall as Jelly Roll, Marcello Hernandez as Jesus and Rosalía as a horny divorcee, egging him on to make the concert.

The final sketch of the episode was set in a kid’s chess tournament, where young TJ (Jeremy Culhane) tries to ignore his parents (Gillis and Reiter) in the stands, where they go from arguing exes to inappropriate flirtation. Saving the best for last, Reiter was certainly a bright spot on an otherwise dull episode.

Gillis’ latest hosting gig on SNL comes after he hosted in 2024 and 2025, following his removal from the NBC sketch comedy‘s featured cast days after he was announced. The decision came in response to resurfaced videos of Gillis mocking Asian accents, in addition to using ethnic and gay slurs.

Shane Gillis Drops F-Bomb In ‘SNL’ Dr. Seuss Sketch

Published

on

Shane Gillis‘ return to Saturday Night Live featured a not-safe-to-air slip in a Dr. Seuss-inspired sketch.

On this weekend’s episode, the comedian accidentally dropped an F-bomb while playing the Cat in the Hat’s (Mikey Day) defensive son who is suspicious of Sam I Am’s (Andrew Dismukes) pressuring him to eat green eggs and ham.

“Hey, what the hell is wrong with you? My dad said he doens’t like them. Walk away,” said Gillis.

“Bro, it’s a non-starter. He said he doesn’t fucking,” he added, immediately covering his mouth. “Jeez! — like ’em.”

Although Gillis moved on in the sketch, Day called back to the expletive later. “Zachary’s the one who’s going. I want you out of this house. You’re a loser, and you said a bad word!” he said.

Gillis acknowledged, “Yes I did.”

‘Saturday Night Live’ Skewers Pete Hegseth Plans To Televise Execution

Published

on

Saturday Night Live once again returned Pete Hegseth (Colin Jost) to its opener, this time with Donald Trump’s secretary of defense addressing the crew of the beleaguered U.S.S. Lincoln.

The ship was at sea for 322 days, with reports of poor conditions and demoralized soldiers, but their plight was dismissed by Trump.

At one point in the skit, Jost’s Hegseth tells the crew of his plans to stream a live execution. In reality, the Pentagon confirmed plans to stream the December execution of Nidal Hassan, sentenced to death for killing 13 people and injuring dozens more in a rampage at Fort Hood.

“As we get into the Christmas spirit, we’re going to execute a guy on live TV. Yeah, that’s right. Public executions are back.”

“And if the guy somehow survives the firing squad, then he’s got to fight Jake Paul. So check that out.”
