Tony D’Angelo is watching his NXT peers get called up to the WWE main roster while he stays put — and he’s finally addressed it. Appearing on Busted Open After Dark, D’Angelo revealed that the powers that be in NXT have spoken to him directly about why he hasn’t made the jump yet.

“It’s Not Because You’re Doing Bad Work”
D’Angelo shared that NXT overseer Shawn Michaels, lead writer Johnny Russo, and coach Matt Bloom have all given him the same reassurance: his absence from Raw and SmackDown has nothing to do with performance.
“I feel like that’s a natural human reaction to see somebody kind of bypass ya,” D’Angelo admitted. But he says he’s learned to accept it. “It’s out of my control, to an extent. I’m always gonna go out there and give 150 percent. I’m never gonna half-ass anything.”
He explained that WWE’s decision-making is simply circumstantial: “Some people have what they’re looking for right now and it’s just a circumstance thing. They’re looking for something that I didn’t fit that mold of right now. So I can’t really be upset at that.”
Halloween Havoc Title Shot Next
Rather than stewing on the call-up, D’Angelo has his eyes on the biggest prize in NXT. Next up is NXT Halloween Havoc on October 31st, where he’ll challenge Grayson Waller for the NXT Championship. A title win there could make the main roster question answer itself.
D’Angelo’s patient attitude stands out in a business where waiting can feel like falling behind. But with three of WWE’s top development minds telling him it’s just timing, the Don of NXT seems ready to bide his time — and keep giving “150 percent” until the call comes.
