By A rookie station employee, a veteran on the verge of retirement, and a mysterious body in the snow — the upcoming mystery thriller “White Blast” is serving locked-room tension at a rural train station, and new stills of Koo Kyo Hwan in character just gave us our first real look.

The film follows Gap Soo (Kim Yun Seok), a station master nearing retirement, and his newly appointed successor Hyun Taek (Koo Kyo Hwan), after the two discover a mysterious body at a rural train station cut off from the world by a heavy snowstorm.
A Rookie Eager to Impress
Koo Kyo Hwan plays Hyun Taek, a junior station employee who arrives late at Seoloh Station after fighting his way through blizzard conditions. The new stills capture him learning the job from Gap Soo — looking tense in front of a tunnel, answering a radio call with rookie nerves, standing with his fingers pressed together, and crouching before the station chief in a bid to win him over.
The images sell a clumsy-yet-eager personality, but there are also inscrutable expressions that hint at another side of the character. In a mystery thriller, the new guy with something hidden is never just the comic relief — and Koo Kyo Hwan’s ability to pivot from earnest to unnerving is one of his great strengths.
An “Escape From Mogadishu” Reunion
Koo Kyo Hwan said reuniting with Kim Yun Seok was a major draw: after working together on “Escape from Mogadishu,” he really wanted to work with the senior actor again and called it an honor. Director Hong Eui Jeong, meanwhile, said she approached the project wondering whether anyone could suit the role of Hyun Taek better than Koo Kyo Hwan.
That chemistry between a grizzled veteran and an unpredictable newcomer, trapped together in a snowed-in station with a dead body and no easy answers, is the engine of the film. “White Blast” hits theaters in November.
