Arc System Works is expanding in a big way. The fighting game veteran has announced that it will open Arc System Works Tokyo Studio “Takumi,” a brand-new development studio, on November 2 — and its first mission is a new fighting game backed by the Japanese government.

According to the announcement made on Thursday, the new studio is being created to “dramatically strengthen development capabilities across the company.” Its flagship project will be a new fighting game that has been selected for the “IP360” subsidy project run by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
A Strategic Cornerstone for the Next Era
The company described the studio as a “strategic cornerstone for going beyond existing conventional game development frameworks and delivering an overwhelming sense of ‘ultimate excitement’ to players around the world.” Beyond game development, Arc System Works envisions Takumi as a collaboration hub with a widespread global reach.
Alongside the announcement, the studio revealed it is expanding its recruitment of creators, signaling that the Tokyo outfit is hiring aggressively as it ramps up.
A Busy Year for Arc System Works
The timing is no surprise — the company has been on a hot streak. Back in August, Arc System Works teamed up with PlayStation Studios and Marvel Games to launch Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, a 4v4 tag team fighter for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The game arrived on August 6 (August 7 in Japan).
September saw the release of Donutal on PC via Steam, and on October 10 the company announced a PlayStation 5 release for its beloved BlazBlue: CentralFiction fighting game.
The studio’s reach even extends beyond games: its flagship Guilty Gear Strive inspired the television anime Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers, which debuted in April 2025.
With a government-subsidized project on the horizon and a new Tokyo studio opening its doors in November, Arc System Works is clearly gearing up for its biggest era yet — and fighting game fans should be watching closely.
